Re: Page 102

The Herald -class Courier now has a profile image. :) Ominous... Not really. It's a recent addition, and I'd expect that whatever ship Alex is being transferred to would have been worked out significantly in advance. That's to say, whatever ship Alex is actually going to wind up on would have been ...

Re: Page 102

On most Loroi vessels, torpedoes are carried on standardized racks and are launched by essentially kicking them out of a door; the torpedo's maneuvering thrusters propel it to a safe distance from the firing ship at which point the main drive is lit. These racks are not currently listed in the clas...

Re: Page 102

Warhead launchers are probably the lower-performance cousin of the torpedo launcher (and the higher performance cousin of the Mk.1 boot). --- My guess is that they're utilitarian in purpose. That's essentially correct. I can understand the confusion, as my nomenclature for the missile launch system...

Re: Page 102

Not gonna be a Halberd - those are battleships - I'm sure we'll see them if/when Alex finally gets to Loroi systems. In no particular order (other than the order they're on teh Insider page in), the possibilities that I see as being the top five: Rapier -class Escort Cruiser, Cutlass -class Light C...

Re: Page 102

I wonder what type of ship Alex and co are transferring to? Beryl said it was an escort but that could be any thing from a Cutlass Light Cruiser to a Herald Courier Corvette. My guess would be a Blaze Frigate because it is fast, it is likely to be escorting a supply column, and it is more likely to...

Re: sci-fi creative writting tips?

To be perfectly fair, Vader (well, Anakin Skywalker), Mara, Luke, and a whole bunch of other Force users did get cloned in the EU, as per ... Crosscurrents , I believe, circa ~41ABY, where they all got cloned as part of some project. Of course ... we never find out in the book what happened to them....

Nah. Artificial voice - a bit more like Stephen Hawking's voice generation program, I think. Hey - Stephen Hawking with an accent!

Well, let's be fair - for as much as Jar Jar Binks is ... iconic of everything that was wrong about the prequels, if he were the only/primary issue, he would have been forgivable. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only issue, and is more the 'last straw', so to speak. You can completely edit Jar Jar out...

Re: sci-fi creative writting tips?

According to Episode VI Padme didn't die in childbirth (Leia has memories of her, though vague ones) ... and yet in Ep III, she dies in childbirth. Continuity in Star Wars.....Don't look for it. I always understood that to be referring to her mother by adoption (who presumably died while Leia was a...

Re: Weapons tangent thread

That is something that is amusing about restrictions on automatic weapons. For targeted attacks they are actually really poor. It's true that in the case of indiscriminate mowing-down-a-crowd attacks they would be great, however in situations like the North Hollywood Shootout there probably would h...

I seem to recall something about a 'tenth planet' or planetoid having been found out in the Kuiper Belt. This was, of course, a number of years ago, and what few details I picked up at the time have long since become blurred.

Hockey stick is a solid choice. So's a lacrosse stick, probably. Or a what'sit called, hurley stick? Celtic-origin game - one of those would probably be pretty good too. Baseball bat + ball +glove (or softball, I suppose, the bats are effectively interchangeable, I think) means you're good as far as...

Interdictors ... I don't remember. They might have been mentioned in Ep IV ... might be in one of the expanded scenes, though - possibly the one where Jabba's at the Falcon 's hangar to talk to Han about the shipment he lost. Been a while, though. Interdictors were allegedly around back during Revan...

Re: INTRODUCTION THREAD

A baseball bat isn't that hard to handle, nor it is that poorly balanced. I mean, sure, there are better options for improvised weapons, but a cricket bat isn't really one of them, IMO. A baseball bat is a club or mace, essentially. Precision is quite possible, though admittedly, more difficult than...

Re: INTRODUCTION THREAD

well, as a martial artist i'd take a cricket bat over a baseball bat if i want to bash someones head in....given the choice. why? smaller cross section at the business end makes for deeper impact cratering, lighter weapon means more velocity and faster 'refire' rate, higher velocity+smaller cross s...

At least when you're dealing with the Sith you can argue that they can hide reasonably well. The constant Imperial armadas have no plausible method of constructing or hiding themselves, a few hundreds dark jedi could plausibly do so. When it's small groups, sure. Full-blown long-established, long-l...

Yeah. There was that for a while .. and the proliferation of SSDs was ... surprising. Considering that it's an entire galaxy I'd say it's to be expected, but certainly I don't really recall any of the books giving enough idea of scale to justify the dime-a-dozen SSDs. and (b) they'd actually learn ...
