Re: Page 198: Beated!

Honestly, 'Seed-head' and 'Tail-wag' sound like the kind of nicknames they probably had from back in their training band days.

Re: How do you feel about page buffers?

I don't have a preference, I am committed to following the story until you finish it as I've been here since around 2004 or so. :) I wouldn't turn down more frequent updates, but as long as you keep working on it I'm ok.

Re: Up coming games

Well, Phoenix Point is from Julian Gollop (original X-Com creator), so I have high hopes. Really, if they get the AI right to dynamically morph the threat as promised, this will be absolutely amazing. I'm looking forward to see if they can pull it off.

Not to take away from the US Civil War discussion, but wasn't Switzerland technically a Confederation for a few hundred years? Obviously before it's current incarnation as a Federal Republic of course...

Well, based on my personal military experience, once you move into a purely 'passenger' mode, it is pretty common to fall asleep. So I can identify with Beryl.

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?

Finally, if you're thinking about launching a projectile from and adjacent system at relativistic speeds and waiting for the years to pass till it hits, that also creates problems. Interstellar space is not empty, and orbits are not 100% predictable over such monumental distances and timespans (n-b...

Re: The Loroi are Evil!

I simply don't see how morality plays into a fight for survival when one opponent taking any sort of idealistic high ground will lose, with defeat likely amounting to extinction. For the moral philosophers out there: I would argue that using Kantian ethics, that the inherent duty of species surviva...

I agree wholeheartedly. I think his speech where he refuses to retreat in the face of the Borg incursion helps cement that for me.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Binary is only relevant for electrical engineering. Programmers use either decimal or hexadecimal. Not quite true, there is still relevance to Networking. I use the binary for teaching manually figuring subnet ranges. And when trying to explain what I mean when flags are set in a TCP header. Althou...

But we have observed superluminal (FTL) events in nature! Cherenkov Radiation anyone?

Or wait, did you mean superluminal in a vacuum? That's a whole different kettle of fish there...

-jk- I couldn't resist the temptation to tweak what exactly FTL was being applied to. :)

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Just to clarify, hemp plants and marijuana plants while related, are different varieties of the Cannabis plant. While I have read that the relationship is like that of a chihuahua and a wolf, in that those are both in the Canis family. I think that the difference is that hemp and marijuana can actua...

Hopefully this won't be taken as cherry picking my points, I just wanted to clarify some parts of this. Correct, but those interactions are simple. Writing secure input code for sensors and such would be trivial. I'll take your word for it. I don't get paid to code systems, just break them. Whe...
