Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Uh...no. First, they will be visible across the system. Systems are big, but almost all of them are also very empty, extremely cold and quiet. Something with a powerplant capable of running a large, long-range mass driver weapon will be visible. Even if you managed to thoroughly disguise one as a r...

Re: Page 87
Let's not forget people, that humans didn't have a need for military development, and even the small TCS fleet is considered too large, as there's simply ntohing to fight against...or should I say, there was nothing to fight against. We humans are clever monkeys, and when the survival of the entire ...

Re: Page 87
To stretch the analogy given earlier a little bit more (perhaps close to the breaking point), if the Historians are the Vorlons then perhaps those who struck the Bellarmine are Shadows? I really, really hope that Arioch hasn't "borrowed" a plotline from previous art. That would be a shame. All stor...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
1) Find out the location of Loroi/Umiak planets. Build Huge-ass mass drivers. Calculate and fire, then scuttle them so the enemy never knows you fired them. The Loroi/Umiak will kill you, but in a hunderd years or so their worlds will be glassed by a deadly rain. Human mass driver projectiles trave...

Re: Physiological/psychological effects on Ship Design.
Iowas has 5-6 knot speed advantage. Jaja. On the next page we´ll sure reach ten or more... Impossible.the highest reported speed of hte Iowa is in the 35-36knt range, and for the Bismarck is it's 30-31 (IIRC) this is all very common sense stuff. Again a semantic trick. You trick yourself, so...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
I can see only 2 ways humans could do anything to Loroi/Umiak. At all. 1) Find out the location of Loroi/Umiak planets. Build Huge-ass mass drivers. Calculate and fire, then scuttle them so the enemy never knows you fired them. The Loroi/Umiak will kill you, but in a hunderd years or so their worlds...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
I was talking about 1 vs 1 engagements. Humans should invest in defenses consisting of thousands of heavily armed, extremely massive, nearly immobile ships that will fail totally if the enemy known for swarm tactics sends two or more ships? You don't see a problem with this? I said it's the only wa...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
I was talking about 1 vs 1 engagements. The only way a Umiak ship could expose the defending terran ship is to come in close...very close. Otherwise...yes, it could stay at range and fire.. but any ship will have a problem with that for 2 reasons: 1) heat managment 2) ammo Just blasting your way tro...

Re: Physiological/psychological effects on Ship Design.
@ TrashMan: It´s all answered in the Fred. ;) Nothing is answered. Waht exactly are we comparign here? Production quality? Hard to judge, given that Bismarck is sunk. I can't really take a close look at it's welding. The only somewhat reliable info on it's construction comes from Okun, where the ma...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Flying around that rock and keeping distance kinda nullifes the speed/acceleration advantage, doesn't it? How? They're still perfectly capable of staying out of range. If the enemy wants to stay at range and come around the asteroid, then they have to make a FAR larger orbit around that same astero...

a) by 2kn in sunny weather. In harsh conditions she lost a lot of speed, also her slender hull made her roll. In sept. ´53 NATO exercise 'Mariner' (North Atlantic only, not even Arctic Ocean ) she performed poorly in comparison to HMS Vanguard. In every aspect, even in speed, although Vanguard was ...

Re: Page 86
It's been mentioned the Umiak are trying to build up a sufficiently large fleet to steamroll the Loroi... Maybe it finally happened.
10 superheavies??? The Loroi are fukked.

Re: Random Discussion on Weapon Systems
See, if humanity Macross had ANY super weapon, it was J-pop.* Culture...not J-pop. In the original Macross, Zentradi were exposed to human culture and were beginning to splinter and defect. Music/singing was just there to tip the already wobbly scale. It's in the sequels where the horiblness of J-p...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
The idea that the Umiak would charge directly into mass driver range is kind of like assuming an army of modern soldiers would fix bayonets and charge into a hoplite formation. It seems more likely the Umiak would just split their task force up and move to the sides and above and below so they coul...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Umiak prefer to charge in and blast in from clsoe range? Hehe...ironicly, the that's exactly where the human weapons are the best. Design cheap ships with minal crews that are made to push asteroids in front of them as giant shields. Arm them with the best mass drivers you can. Charge at the Umiak ...

Re: Physiological/psychological effects on Ship Design.
Übermensch or not, i just admire passion for technology and craftsmanship. So do I..and the Iowa is one such piece of excellence. And on that little flamewar here: The keyword was "Arctic Ocean". As rolly sunny-weather ships it would have been difficult for the Iowas. I´m not belittling these ships...

Now, I'm not the one to diss the concept itself (love in WH40K...scandalous, I know!)...even the writing is passable... but the pacing of that thing was AWFULL. I'm confused. It's a 4-panel comic. There's actually a whole fanfic written about it. It suffers from the same *BAMF - instant love* syndr...
