Re: Physiological/psychological effects on Ship Design.
Iowa is the best battelship ever designed. Period. Read a bit here: http://www.combinedfleet.com/baddest.htm Yes, yes. I know this page. A fanboy-site from somebody who doesn´t has the slightest clue. Bismarck the 2nd worst ship... ...you want fries with that? 8-) Ok...so who has the slightest clue...

You had to do it, didn't you?
Now, I'm not the one to diss the concept itself (love in WH40K...scandalous, I know!)...even the writing is passable...but the pacing of that thing was AWFULL.

Bismarcks fire-control was AFAIK the most advanced of it´s time, Erm...no. Iowas fire-control system was the msot advanced of it's time. Iowa is the best battelship ever designed. Period. Re: Page 86
That would be one epic crossover. But rahter short, as teh SPESS MUHREENS would be all "Burn in the righteous flames of the Emperor, Eldar Witch!" Altough seeing Alexes and Loroi rection to the Astates would be priceless. Maybe not as short as you think, considering Arioch mentioned Loroi Tedai bei...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Umiak prefer to charge in and blast in from clsoe range? Hehe...ironicly, the that's exactly where the human weapons are the best. Design cheap ships with minal crews that are made to push asteroids in front of them as giant shields. Arm them with the best mass drivers you can. Charge at the Umiak (...

You know it Haven't gotten around to watching all of it, but been liking what I see. One of the better sci-fi anime out there. You havn't seen all of it yet? Well..I can tell you that the ending is....unexpected. Heck, after episode 70 (or 80), things start to get totally unpredictable. Just odn't ...

Re: Armor values
Interesting to note that once you start fielding weapons with enough potency, no armor can catch up anymore. Armor technology has fallen way below weapon tech. There really is no practical armor, short of unobtanium/handwavium that can protect you from things like nukes and advanced mass-drivers, or...

Re: Armor values
You shouldn't really put any values under too much scrutiny. Blaster (beam cannons) should have just as big range/damage problems as lasers, but the description mentions the Loroi found a way around it. If he chose to, he could have just as easily written that humans found ways to get rid of all fr...

Re: page 83
Even among very loose and liberal humans, such actions by CAPTAINS in the middle of a battle would be unheard of. maybe, me I think such banter is a great way to easy some of the tension and like icekatze said the worste of the battle seems to have passed. Hard work needs harder humour. This is som...

Re: page 82
I still say detecting mass driver shots in a battle enviroment, in space..is silly. If they could detect such small objects, their sensors would be beeping 24/7...cause there all kind of crap in space. In a battle environment it would be slightly more difficult, but only slightly. Space is mostly e...

Re: page 82
The velocity will still be too low. A HUMAN ship can maneuver out of the path of a mass driver shot at distances of only a few thousand km, and the shotgun approach won't cover THAT much more space. It would depend when the "shell" bursts, no? The sooner it bursts, the larger the area covered...but...

Immagine a cailgun/railgun shell that splits open (after some distacne is reached) and lets out a rain of smaller shells in a cone pattern...who then release their own bullets. Basicly a long-ranged space shotgun... Meh, the magnetic fields required to make a mass driver powerful enough to even con...

Curiously enough the Multiple Warhead system could be used on mass drivers.

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Fair enough I knew a guy called trashcan who modeled ships very much like your designs, so was wondering if by chance you were him. Well, I am pretty active in many modding communities(Freespace, Sword of the Stars, Inifinty..) At one time iwas visiting so many forums I kept forgeting some (and my ...
