Re: Page 89

I had a flashback to Terminator 3 when Beryl said that it was time...

I'll post my thoughts for that Alex could say after I've had some time to ruminate on the matter.

Re: Couple questions

WoW learn something every day. So do you believe in any Cultural adaptation. I remember a family member recalling that he was ambidextrous but was force to be right handed only. A clear cultural/social reason but how much ? Chirality in living organisms is different from molecular chiralities. The ...

Re: Couple questions

My guess would be "Yes" and "Yes" to both. Praise for soldiers, even warriors, inspires confidence and high morale. When someone from your platoon, squad, or regiment gets a medal (or similar item of recognition) recognising their valour, courage and heroism in the heat of battle, it vicariously rai...

Re: Map of the Steppes (Seren-Tinza) Front

That would be significantly further than what's implied, arms are generally separated by thousands of lightyears. If we take the sun to be at the centre of the circle indicated, then Naam and the surrounding locations would be about a pixel or three down and to the left, still well within the Orion ...

Re: Farsense and Sensibility.

As a converse to this question, have there been any Loroi born with an exceptional level of Sanzai / TK? I'm talking head and shoulders above even the bell curve here, ala our version of Idiot Savant's, the kind of telepathic capabilities that would give even Farseers pause. Take their abilities an...

Re: Farsense and Sensibility.

Question: Are there mutations/birth defects which can limit/prevent the development the use of sanzai? Like being deaf or mute, only telepathically. Do/would the Loroi terminate such individuals in the womb or has their medical technology advanced enough to prevent/repair such defects (though if th...

Re: Page 87

Logs can be altered. If they're industrious enough to cover their tracks by blowing the ever loving hell out of the Bellarmine and sneaky enough to dodge reporting it, they'd have to be devious enough to also consider altering their logs.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

{Snip} Diplomacy not being the Loroi strong suit, these codes were rarely agreed upon and written down in a formal manner -- the exception being the city-states of Perrein (home to what is now the Mizol caste), famous for their elaborate diplomatic agreements (and the Machiavellian finesse with whi...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

The reason the bridge is on the outer surface of the ship most of the time is that science fiction shows take artistic license and frequently borrow from the "Space is an Ocean" trope. It's silly, but it's a silliness that most audiences have come to expect. I'd love to see a series that brutally su...

Re: Page 88

Heres a thought. What if exposing a farseer to Alex allows them to break through the jamming? The Loroi can't farsense humans but they can initiate some kind limited telepathic contact when in close proximity. Bring a farseer close to Alex. Let the farseer try to probe and prod him until they figure...

Re: Page 87

Another off-topic tangent: Sometimes I wonder how Loroi/Umiak food cultures would compare to human food cultures in terms of diversity and complexity given their other cultural differences/values. It would be funny if there was something relatively innocuous to Earthlings that was highly addictive ...

Re: Hyperspace

The only way you're going to truly destabilise a star in any significant fashion would be to throw the following at them: A: A stellar black hole. No, not the tiny one's that you could artificially produce. A black hole. A fully fledged black hole. One that has significant mass, say roughly 3 - 4 ti...

Re: Hyperspace

There are presumably also easier, more reliable ways to glass a planet than throwing giant rocks around on trajectories that have a 99.999999% chance of failure. Judging from the graphic depicted, pretty deep in. All the way into the star itself actually. The problem becomes one of accuracy. Hitting...

Re: Page 87

A volume of space 200 light years across contains a lot of star systems to explore. Hm. Comes to my mind right now: We fired a lot of nukes ~220 years before todays storyline? I mean, radio transmissions and seti stuff aside, wouldn´t a nuclear explosion have been registered 20 years ago? No. Elect...
