Re: Cultural shock/differences

I'd take a different train of thought if we accept that Loroi think more highly of themselves than other races. "So this 'Guardian of the Garden' is among their best warriors? Their brightest minds?" Ya... I don't see that going over well with Stillstorm, or, really, Tempo for that matter. As part ...

Re: two questions about the Loroi Military

There is also the possibility that the small unit action that is in the offing will be Loroi vs Loroi. Fanatics bent on keeping Alex from being revealed to the Union and thus spoiling Loroi origin myths. Prophet's Reason, Rigai Mozin, and the Historian construct may have already been the first victi...

Bah...now we need artwork of Loroi with kittens. Kittens might even get Fireblade to smile.

Re: Cultural shock/differences

The method I am proposing doesn't require that anyone send, or that any individual is the target of a sending. It is a purely passive use of the farsensing ability.

Have I really explained it that poorly?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

You got it off the Cast page and it's correct, so there's no need to apologize. Talon and Spiral are the last two survivors of the original squadron of 20 that was deployed to Strike Group less than a year ago; Tempest only carries 8, and the rest of the squadron are carried by other vessels in the...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

/Nitpick ON Talon is actually the more senior of the two members of her squadron remaining, not the sole survivor. Given that the Tempest carries 8 fighters, that means that Talon's unit has suffered 75% losses, not 90%. Unless Tempest carries more than significantly more than 8 pilots for its 8 fig...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

Using telepathy at interstellar FTL communication is possible, but limited to unusual situations in which the target is a known amplified Farseer who can detect a transmisson at a specific "frequency" and low enough power that it will not potentially lobotomize nearby ordinary Loroi. I'll point onc...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

I was just looking at the Loroi ship classes in the extras, and the Herald Corvette says : "These small, fast, minimally armed vessels are used in large numbers for courier duty. Because of the lack of FTL communications, messages can only travel at the speed of the fastest ship." Which heavily impl...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

This quote lists the dangers and limitations of long-range telepathy using Farseers, you would need a Farseer on each of those relay ships your talking about and there simply aren't enough of them available, not when they are much to valuable for their other abilities. Take a look at fredgiblet's c...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

For this very reason, dice-style games won't be popular with the Loroi, nor will the sort of card games in which you need to keep your hand hidden from the other players. Even in games of strategy like chess, a significant part of the challenge will be keeping your plans secret from the other playe...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

There's no interstellar telepathy. I remember Arioch stating that it would likely be possible, but would have the side effect of being extremely dangerous to the recipients of the message (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY-03vYYAjA) Hm... I figured there was from the Loroi Timeline in the extras : ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Concerning Loroi and games : Alex was the academy chess champion (pg 94) so maybe he will introduce the game to the loroi on the long shuttle trip. A good game for Loroi as there are no dice to be telekenetically manipulated. Though, unless Tempo is along, I wouldn't worry about that. Fireblade migh...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

I don't know that the new farseer being male is indicative of any push for gender equality in Loroi society. More likely, farseers are rare enough that gender is less important than ability.

Or maybe they're hoping a male farseer might be able to read a male human.

Re: Loroi sexuality

Our merchant ships won't be much more useful than our warships. They are probably smaller and almost certainly much slower than the Loroi ships. From what Arioch has said humans in Outsider might be longer lived than Loroi. Our merchant ships may be slow, but they're free. No Loroi shipyards needed...

Re: Loroi sexuality

I don't think the Loroi are currently in a position to refuse any allies, even if those allies may be a threat in the future. Let the future deal with that. If human ships are not militarily useful, don't have the humans build military ships. Transfer merchant ship production to Human yards, in orde...

Re: Loroi sexuality

Definitely. The question is whether the powers-that-be want to find out. I am sure humans would be curious, but the Loroi who've constructed their 'national myth' on the basis of their perceived true Soia heritage will be apprehensive of what they might uncover. But here's the thing, if they ignore...

Political marriages: Is it a crazy idea or a possibility? Coming soon to a theater near you (for Human consumption only): "I Married a Mizol!" Alex (Human Actor) and Tempo (Loroi Actress) are young diplomats who's superiors decide they should get married in order to improve Loroi-Human relations. W...
