Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."
However, once the decision was made to make contact, attempting to establish diplomatic relations while somehow keeping your nation's location a secret doesn't make any sense to me. That's going to be pretty much the first question they ask, and if you refuse to answer it, I don't see negotiations ...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."
Clearly my point of view on this in the minority. While he's at it, Jardin can just give out ship specs, detailed routes, whatever defense plans that they have, and do his best to ensure that Earth and its colonies are as vulnerable as possible. As a gesture of good faith. Sarcasm aside, I've been f...

Re: Terran Ship Classes
True, they are. I was just wondering, since the cruisers get out of docks more often than destroyers, if the destroyers do make patrols solo.

Re: Terran Ship Classes
The Colonial Fleet was formed at a time when there was an undeclared war going on between entities in the Sol system and Aldea, and both sides had built armed starships that were interfering with interstellar trade routes. The America class was designed to completely outclass anything that either s...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."
Then Earth's people are at best incredibly naive. Or at least its diplomatic corps. By giving up Earth's location, they outright put themselves at the mercy of the Loroi or Umiak if they choose to be belligerent.

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."
I mean, has it really? Alex isn't convinced. We know that information can flow at least one way, maybe it can flow both ways and the Loroi aren't showing their hand. Doesn't mean you take a chance. If the humans decided the priority was to not be found, they would've stayed home. There's a differen...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."
He's a military officer talking to a species that can potentially kill his own. He's not exchanging recipes.
Where is it stated he's supposed to outright tell the Loroi where the Earth is?

"Earth should be about HERE..."
It's been established that the Loroi can't pry secrets from Jardin's mind. So far, he has to tell them things for them to stick. As far as conversations have gone so far, its clear the Loroi have no idea what humans are, and more importantly WHERE they are. He also witnessed a skirmish between the t...

Terran Ship Classes
I'm trying to see for what reason the humans built the America-Class at all. While the Centaur-Class is not as powerful, it can still be used on patrol, which is much more useful than ships that tend to largely rust at the docks. I mean, what if humans had not met another alien for 50 or 100 years? ...

Re: The Human Aliens as the Good Guys
You're entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine. That's true. Although I'd like to hear how you think genocide IS justified. Because you are implying it by, you know, disagreeing. As Alex narrates on page 2: "In short, Earth needed heroes. That's where I came in." If Alex had chosen the "wron...

Re: The Human Aliens as the Good Guys
I won't argue whether or not it was justified here, it's beside the main point. It's not beside the point at all, and no, it's not justified. The Umiak are a different story. They have a parasitic rather than a symbiotic relationship with their client races. They subjugate a race, enslave the popul...

Re: The Human Aliens as the Good Guys
"The Umiak are Communists. Not just ideologically, but genetically as well. Every race must be brought into the fold to serve the greater good. Individuals live only to serve the state. Being part of the Umiak's empire is to live in slavery. Umiak experiment on themselves. They do the same to Loroi....

The Human Aliens as the Good Guys
I might not be making any friends with this. But I feel like, so far, we've followed the easy path of having two alien races: one that looks human, with so far cosmetic differences, and one that looks very alien. We've followed Jardin - a very inexperienced officer - as he is made representative to ...

Re: Page 108 & 109 Discussion
Well, so far we're only seeing things from a Loroi perspective. Of COURSE they'll make themselves sound the better, more sensible party. The Umiak would do the same.
To make a truly sound judgement, Alex would need to see both sides.

Re: Is Outsider still an active project, or is it over?
18 months and still nothing, no progress report? No idea what's going on? 18 months between pages isn't the way to keep reader interest. Yes, we're getting this for free, that's an old argument that loses much of its weight when there's so much time between updates. The setting is magnificent, no qu...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Without wanting Humans to be an incredible species, IS there something that Humans do BETTER than Loroi? I note that the Loroi took 375 years to go from their version of Sputnik to jump drives, while it took humans 150 years to do the same thing. We got there 2.5 times faster, on our own. There's go...

Captain Hamilton
I noticed that Alex - and, from what I gather, most younger officers - viewed Captain Hamilton with an almost hallowed respect. What did the man particularly do to earn that sort of admiration? I get that he's an explorer, but what did he explore that makes him a cut above others? How long was he a ...
