Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

There is another aspect: The Umiak jamming-device made this ships crew invisible to the farseers, too, no matter who they were. This could imply that the invisibility of our hero is actually due to that device. An idea i don´t like very much - i´m curious to see if Alex is still "invisible" on the ...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

My main problem with it being an intentional approach on Bellarmine is that it's absurdly, unnecessarily dangerous to get that close when you've got sensors and weapons capable of operating effectively from many orders of magnitude further away. The ship was only 60km away! At that range, if the Bel...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

That's an interesting interpretation... instead of assuming that both ships saw each other simultaneously (or the aggressor saw them first), the alien commander is spooked by a previously unknown ship announcing itself at perilously close range and then doing evasive maneuvers. Alternatively: if the...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

The only vessel in the system with a Wave-Loom device is Tempest, and she is far too large to be the 300m vessel that killed Bellarmine. Also, in the bizarre scenario that that isn't enough evidence for you, descriptions of the Wave-Loom that I've seen (which aren't much, to be honest) described it ...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

Strictly speaking, Hamilton wouldn't have needed to put Bellarmine anywhere special to "lie low" while the Loroi and Umiak were duking it out. While Bellarmine might be obvious in normal circumstances (obvious jump signature, initial engine burn, and a fairly obvious moving object on radar if not hi...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

I don't think the facts add up nicely to Bellarmine being hunted after first detection. 60km is just way, WAY too close for any conceivable purpose other than a friendly approach (obviously not the case) or the telepathy boosting mentioned earlier (thought that is an interesting angle). Any sort of ...

The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

A thought occurred to me regarding the vessel that blasted apart the Bellarmine. In the comic it was spotted a mere 60km away from the Bellarmine, and appeared out of nowhere. Furthermore, while the tech level of the Terran ship might be discernible from the energy output of the vessel on scans, its...

Re: CERN claims FTL neutrinos

Half the math uses immaginary numbers - which don't exist in nature - to get their results. :geek: NUMBERS don't exist in nature. You can't pull a 3 out of anywhere, you can't mine for 7s, and there is no elementary particle for a 2. Numbers are abstract concepts used by the human mind to understan...

Re: Page 90

While I don't have a particularily strong background in cutting-edge physics, I was under the impression that the only faster than light phenomena we are currently aware of do not actually transmit information, and anything that CAN transmit information in an FTL manner would break a lot of our curr...

Re: Page 90

The blatantly obvious foreshadowing for Beryl figuring out exactly what he said does not make me look forward to the questions (and the inevitably uncomfortably awkward explanation). Was kinda hoping Alex would improvise something less stupid, but after the last page (with the invoking of Murphy's l...
