Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Let it be know that from henceforth I won't be making any predictions as to when the next part will be ready. I scrapped this part twice in the weekend. What I posted above is approx 50% the 'finalized' hand written draft I finished yesterday and 50% last minute changes (that took 2 hours to finaliz...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Chapter 2, part 2 The air smelled foul and the corridors themselves were barely lit by the faint emergency lights, spreading her mind she realized that she was alone in that part of the ship; the others huddled around in a couple of places. Normally there would be a dozen or so warriors this far aw...

Re: What are the terran military really useful for?

Having thought about this extensively humanity has only two things going for it. First and the most obvious one; we have plenty of bodies available and we are good ground pounders because the majority of humanity's military is still locked in ground warfare. This also being the area where humans hav...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Yay. I wonder what a Bennet makes of 116% increase in life support strain... But why the loroi had any artificial gravity on? Both the life support and the gravity systems are working at half capacity (than what would be needed to properly support 93 Loroi) to conserve as much energy as possible, t...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Author's Random Ramblings

Well, after a relatively bad week and scrapping the initial draft of the second chapter I finally released the next part of the story.

If time permits I should be able to write and post the next part by Saturday and the third part by Sunday.

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Chapter 2, part 1 If death was to come for them, it would be quick and painless. Every last of the 93 survivors aboard the Imperial destroyer Silverspear knew this. Their ship was crippled, with its main reactor knocked out of commission, life support and some gravity barely maintained by connectin...

Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre

Regarding the Ultraheavies I imagine at least three possible uses: 1st: Take and hold missions. In short when an attack fleet takes something of value a couple of Ultraheavies are quickly moved in to take up a defensive position until permanent defences can be erected. 2nd: Defence bolstering in cri...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?

Let me clear up some misunderstandings. When I said ''mentally quiet'' I was specifically refering to Human-Loroi interactions. We'd have no chance of passing off as one of them (remember they've had contact with ''enemy constructs'' before. They're probably, by now, very good at sniffing out impos...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

This is going to be... Artsy... So, lets take human art; the definition of art as we know it is 'the expression of someone's creative inner world through their works'. Loroi are creative, the males are described as philosophical while the militant females have demonstrated numerous times their natur...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?

Something I haven't yet seen mentioned- human warrior traditions and capabilities, and our ability to adapt and explode technologically when pressured. In the first case, humans have been fighting internal wars for over ten thousand years, since the earliest records of history and beyond (based on ...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?

Dragoongfa: Telepathy is a double-edged sword when it comes to mental illness. On the one hand, telepathy provides superior tools both to diagnose and to treat mental disorders, from developmental problems, to behavioral disorders, psychoses, and dementia due to aging. On the other hand, when such ...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?

Had a couple of ideas on this subject: 1st: Psychology, Psychotherapy and a telepathically 'clean' environment. Loroi are natural telepaths and since they can't shut down their gifts they have to constantly be on their guard about individuals who have some form of mental illness; if someone suffers ...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Would there not be a navigational buoy in this solar system? They're automated, and can contain information. Or would the Loroi destroy them as well? The Loroi completely destroyed the key infrastructure of the Tithric, in order to negate its use by the Umiak. If they thought that something could c...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Interesting stuff. Though I have to say "Fransua" sound silly. I'd recommend sticking with "Francois". I hate French (the language although the people are annoying too) for a reason. And asteroids with EM emissions? If they're mostly iron, I can see EM interference happening but "EM emission" sound...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Chapter 1, part 3 Lieutenant Francois Litteauer was at first annoyed about his new orders since their current sojourn into the system had already lasted more than 14 hours, 5 of which were in EVA, examining that destroyed space station. His mood however changed when the Captain explained the situat...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror

Chapter 1, Part 2 From antiquity one facet of military organizations helped innumerable soldiers maintain their discipline, focus and sanity. It was simple to the point of absurdity but the truth was that morale always stayed stable when the routine schedule of a unit remained stable. For some reas...

Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre

That, for me, is the reason as to why the Sherman was 'adequate' and not obsolete. The USSR tanks, especially the T-34 was both as reliable and superior to the Sherman, hell the T34-85 variant could go up against Panthers as well. For me the Sherman's failure was crew survivability, tankers are like...

Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre

However on Land weapons the Japanese were horribly under equiped, their infantry weapons were probably the worst used in the war (probably on par with the Italians) and their tanks were beyond coffins of metal, even the Sherman was considered top of the line when compared with them. Contrary to pop...
