Has there ever been a movement for allowing the daughters of civilians to be trained as warriors?
As I understand it very few Loroi civilians ever have children, the vast majority of Loroi civilians were born warriors and then failed (possibly by choice) the warrior trials.

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general

But I was asking about the Trade etymological origins of that particular term. It's the translation thread, after all. Maybe there's a standard term for that, maybe the Loroi (re)invented it and maybe, just maybe, that new term may be based on which side the steering paddle of small boats was on. S...

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general

Well, the steering side is on the right, because we humans are right-handed. I doubt that the Loroi made big ships right away, smaller boats would've been the norm for millennia. Those would be steered with an oar or even just a paddle, and the left-handed Loroi would've hung them over the left sid...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Those will be Acclamators- specifically designed heavy dropships. True but then we have this scene in Episode 3: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/6f/Venator_takeoff.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20210712121205 Definitely Star Destroyers, although not the Imperial-class admittedly. But c...

Re: Confederations

Certainly it had some effect on the Confederate war effort, Confederate commanders tended to be very concentrated on local issues. Confederate armies in different theaters essentially fought their own independent wars whilst especially later on after Grant assumed overall command the Union fought th...

Re: Page 111 discussion

I suspect as they are currently traveling in something roughly the size of a jumbo jet that Talon probably has a copilot.

After checking the Insider I see that a Highland has a crew of between 2 and 10 so it seems likely that includes two pilots.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Not to be snarky but if aft placement of the hangar is so logical why don't humanity do the same. I don't see how they could have a similar configuration on their warships. I think you've sort of answered your own question... It's the logical place to put it given Loroi ship design standards with t...

I also get the impression that an "accident" would be rather an out of character action for Stillstorm, she seems rather a more direct personality.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Well there is an area labelled as a vestibule which although a fairly ambiguous term one of its possible meanings is a toilet. It also fits with the kind of language the Loroi use so sounds like the kind of word they would use to refer to the heads. As for the lack of berths people manage to sleep i...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

Using telepathy at interstellar FTL communication is possible, but limited to unusual situations in which the target is a known amplified Farseer who can detect a transmisson at a specific "frequency" and low enough power that it will not potentially lobotomize nearby ordinary Loroi. I'll point onc...

Re: Cultural shock/differences

Given enough power and instrumentality, it is possible to mechanically amplify an ordinary Loroi individual's telepathic transmission so that it may be readable at interstellar distances, but this is not usually done. Keep in mind that during the pre-starflight Loroi period of internecine warfare, ...

Re: Insider, Updates

Here's another question: Can the umiak extend the range of their weapons to match the loroi's at the expense of higher damage. I suspect not, the Umiak are described as using a different method of focusing to the Loroi/Historian tech so the range limit is likely an inherent weakness of their method...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Farseers are Loroi who are capable of sensing the presence of living beings over interstellar distances. This is particularly important in a milieu where there is no form of faster-than-light sensors. Their abilities allow the Loroi to detect and intercept Umiak assault fleets before they enter Loro...

Well as I thought there were logical explanations for all of them (the Skymaster one had been nigerling at me for a while...).

Thanks for feeding my nerdish pedantism :D

Loroi ship anomalies

Ok so the title of this topic is probably inaccurate as there is probably a perfectly logical explanation for all of these. And yes I am one of those nerds who spends far to long staring at the made-up statistics for fictional space ships... Anyway having looking at the info for Loroi ships on Insid...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

Interesting enough the moment the Tempest is about to break loose on the reinforced Umiak fleet with its forward and close range batteries ... Jardin is forcefully taken away from the room (long after he said "what colour the beam that destroyed his ship had"). With Beryl being somewhat distressed ...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

Well pirates are mentioned in the Terran section of Insider, indeed their presence is one of the primary reasons for the existence of the Terran fleet, most of its vessels are small patrol and police ships. It defensive capabilities are just a side-benefit, given that we had no evidence for the exis...

Re: Page 90

I think it's possible for the Umiak to have more knowledge of Loroi space than the Loroi have of Umiak space. Not necessarily the case, but possible enough to warrant precautions. Whilst it is certainly true they may know more about the form of Loroi space prior to the war than the Loroi do about t...

Re: Page 90

I think the technology of the setting means that any reserve force is effectively "hidden". Any force that the Loroi hold back beyond the front line are unknown to the Umiak as they have no method of detecting them. Umiak reserves themselves are similarly hidden from the Loroi, as the farseers can't...

The problem is that those ball bearings have no method of station keeping and thus will orbit the star just like any other object and will move out of position, the jump zones are fixed in relation to other stars and do not move. You would have to continuously replace your "minefield" as the previou...
