That and he is wearing a shipsuit, not the body armor a 'real' warrior would be wearing.

Re: The Loroi are Evil!

Since Arioch pointed out some clues how there is things happening on background, I started to think that they might have lied/mislead the number of survivors. When people are not present, they might be busy of extracting information & doing experiments with other 'bodies'. And I looked it again. Sh...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?

Well, not so much a civilian. But an Ensign who has only been promoted... He can brag all he wants, but he is still a suspicious outsider without anything to prove himself. Exactly. "You could have prevented the loss of X spacecraft if you'd done Y" would probably come off as him being an Armchair ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

My answers presume that the ship which crashed is military, and that the crew are all female warriors. Why Academia (teaching?) on 3 and law on 4? The Loroi warrior class would agree with the maxim "Those who cannot do, teach." They realize that education and training are necessary and important, i...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I can see the Loroi being able to make the amp with some sort of biological component. Something like an artificially grown brain (severely limited in scope and scale and not intelligent) that's hooked into computer augmentation units/power sources to direct it so it acts like the amplifier/battery....

It also allows them to change things that they disagree with. The Extended Universe writers wrote a LOT of material in the time after the movies. Ten, twenty, thirty years out or so. That covered a hell of a lot of things happening. With all of that not null and void, that opens up the future of Sta...

...While the size of a chemical slugthrower really only affects stability and accuracy (a .50 caliber bullet will, in theory, do the same amount of damage whether fired from a cannon or a handgun...) This is not entirely true- a longer barrel means that the expanding gasses in a firearm spend more ...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

hi hi Considering that the rocket industry hasn't been privatized, that is a strange claim to make. But I guess there is a lot of confusion over who is running what, how, and why. I got the impression they meant more direct NASA control over the projects. As in the private companies build them, but...

reminds me of the disasters regarding the first JAS-39 a horrible accident caught live on tv, everyone called it a disaster...except the engineers, they went 'finally something went wrong! now what went wrong and how can we fix it?' because you do NOT want those kinds of bugs still around when it g...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

'Cept Sol is quite a way away from the warzone and neither the Loroi nor Umiak knew about them previously. Hell, given the difference in development speeds, by the time the war rolled onto Humanity's doorstep, they'd probably be on the combatants tech level if they'd never sent that mission. Of cou...

I think all Earth pets would seem equally exotic to an alien.

I wonder if any of them will be like a tribble to the Loroi (ie react to them in a hostile manner and make them uncomfortable).

With all of the sci-fi writers and artists out there, how many of their designs, do you think are viable ones? I have seen the designs Arioch has posted here on this site, the pictures and Deviant Arts, as well as the designs by some other artists, including one of my favorite sci-fi comic artists/a...

yes, but that is if the Loroi don't sweep us under the rug for political reasons. It would look very bad for them to do that without damned good reason. The Loroi, even with their formidable military strength, need the services of the Historians, Neridi, and the Barsam. Those races would not ...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Yes. As large as the Umiak Hegemony is, even if the Lorie do get into their internal areas, it's going to take decades to finish them off because of the round about way they'd have to take to get ships to the new front, and the years of fighting to get into the newer systems and reduce the Umiak wor...

o.o Children or adult now? If adult, that puts the possible age humans can live to two centuries. Are the few people that old still mentally capable or senile? Are they limited in their ability to move? Can a human in 2160 expect to have a long and vigorous youth and middle age (up into the 80-90-1...

One more thing. I noticed that on your technology levels page, level 9 mentions longevity as a technology that a society will usually work on during that phase of their development. Do Outsider humans live substantially longer lives than current humans? I would imagine that 150 years of medical dev...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

Having a bridge on a starship where you can actually see outside is foolish. A properly placed bridge would be deeper in the vessel (and sticking it on the front on something like a battleship or cruisers seems just as foolish too). The flag bridge would be in a different place in the ship as would...
