Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

The biggest problem is of course limited range. It has a top speed in level flight of 300 km/h (186 mph) but a range of only 300 km (186 miles), which translates into a flight endurance of about an hour. Being stranded in an electric car without accessible recharge is one thing, but dropping out of...

Re: Space Warfare

There is a difference between acceleration and velocity. A fleet coming in at 20g of acceleration builds tremendous velocity. You will have a narrow window to intercept and engage. Also, Loroi tactics likely do involve some kiting to whittle the enemy through attrition but circumstances in comic pre...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

I would wager plenty of "Friendly fire ain't friendly" jokes to surface after the first few combat tours. Naval gunfire support isn't new, and a CnC aboard a ship is typically better equipped to handle fire support calls than most of the mentioned supporting units. Amusing. They deactivate the 16"/...

Re: New game, Children of a Dead Earth?

Scott Manley had a review on it.

Honestly, looking at it I'm worried about replayability. Seems like that might be one of the wonderful toys that would wind up sitting on my shelf after about 3-4 hours.

New game, Children of a Dead Earth?

Just saw this one, a new release on steam. Bills itself as a hard sci space combat game in the vein of KSP. Build your own ships, blow stuff up. Anyone here have yet? From what I'm reading its a bit more nitty gritty in that you aren't just slapping prefab weapons and reactors on the ship.

Re: Are our resident Germans ok?

At this point its important to note there is no separation of Church and State in Islam. Islamic law IS the law. It must be made the law everywhere, to all of mankind. Believers and nonbelievers alike. This is a very important point. Islam, IIRC, became a state religion very quickly and Muhammad ac...

WW1 is STILL fucking us over 100 years later. Amen, preach on brother! The beliefs of ISIS are not the Muslim mainstream Lets put that into a historical perspective. The beliefs of the National Socialist Workers Party of German were also not mainstream. They came into power on roughly 1/3rd the vot...

Re: Are our resident Germans ok?

I won't disagree with bleak, but I do see other options. The most likely being the elite classes utilize the internalized strife to advance powers of surveillance and control over the populace as a whole. Because you can't single out any one group! Thatd be bigoted/racist/phobic etc. But ya, any eff...

Re: Are our resident Germans ok?

Not our usual fare, hope Arioch doesn't mind too much. so they can recruit from people angry at said retaliatory strikes. Erp. Thats a small aspect of it, sure, but only one. And maybe not in this particular case, but in general. Its more a damned if you do - damned if you don't problem. The suppose...

Re: Confederations

In truth, both are correct. Its possible for something to be eminent without it being imminent. Im only objecting to the latter notion. The downward economic force was noted by the people of the day, absolutely. Its even noted in the section of Democracy I noted above, expressly in the section cove...

I watched a couple. It really doesn't need to be 27 hours if all his lectures follow a similar format and flow. Don't know Yale's course structure but I assume hes padding class time a bit on account of the course work the students are required to do outside class. Don't have the will power to sit t...

Re: Confederations

nemo: as i understood it the south was well on it's way to get rid of slavery I'd definitely have to disagree with that. The powers that be were trying to expand slavery into the new states in the west to protect it as an institution. Virtually any effort in the South to push for emancipation died ...

Re: Confederations

Also from what I've read since of the constitution/structure of the CSA, I'm not sure it really was that much of a confederation by any of the definitions people have offered. Admittedly that's just from Wikipedia browsing, so that could easily be wrong. Yeah, I understand that one of the founding ...

Re: Star Wars SPOILERS ALLOWED

I wasnt commenting on this 'Resistance' as I havent seen the movie, just the idea that "to start a rebellion you want commonality if possible". You can smooth out your logistics after you've grown enough to employ bean counters. Till then a rebellion wants teeth in any shape it can get.

Re: Star Wars SPOILERS ALLOWED

In this movie, we had a handful of X-Wings and basic TIEs. No B-Wings, A-Wings, Y-Wings, no Interceptors or Bombers, ALL of which were in the original trilogy. No Star Destroyers or Mon Cal cruisers. We barely even saw space! Because it's largely a rehash of 4. Also because, unknown to the viewer s...

Asteroid mining can be long term replenishment as metals on the moon become more difficult to acquire. Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

I still dont understand why we want to bother going to Mars in person anyway. Let the rovers go down in the gravy well. Use the people to man stations on the moon and start up some manner of resourcing and manufacturing capacity. Even that can be largely auto or tele-operated.
