Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

The individual worlds have police frigates that are responsible for local patrol and law enforcement. These are limited by treaty as to size and number. If the frigates are only available to the individual nations for local protection, does that mean they aren't equipped with an FTL drive? I'd imag...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

(...) In both universes to wear power armour requires a lot of surgical alteration and augmentation to use ( and thus limits their number, thought in 40K that doesn't seem to be a problem, but i'm not very familiar with the fiction so . . . ) I don't know of any reason why WH40k powered armor requi...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

I don't think powered armor of any size is a practical weapon system. You could build a Gundam-sized armored fighting vehicle, but there's no advantage in doing so and lots of disadvantages. Ah, by 'power armor,' I meant something more like the power armor from the Fallout series of games or the Mj...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

I always thought that, when someone developed a method of artificial gravity/gravitational manipulation, flying cars would be around not so much for the fact that they can fly, but more to relieve traffic congestion. No more effing traffic jams! Actually, speaking of automation, were the computers a...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Considering how stupide some driver are, and how unskilled MOST driver are. having flying cars is just looking for problem I had always thought that, by the time flying vehicles were available for public use, self-driving cars would have become a standard. In that case, people would own and be able...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Since the development of spaceflight, have any new kinds of events sprung up? Like, space racing, or some kind of zero-gee sport, possibly akin to the Battle School skirmishes from Ender's Game? Although Earth has been host to many planet-bound mines and mineral extraction methods, are any of the ot...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

With the advances in technology, has Earth become replete in Megacities (multiple skyscrapers large enough to house entire towns within themselves) or are there still large stretches of untouched landscape? Are there any monarchies on the other worlds? For that matter, are they, like Earth, made up ...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Do humans still use rockets to send things from planets into orbit, or do we use orbital elevators/cannons?

Have we figured out how to make power armor?

And what kind of hand-weapons do we use? Like, projectile weapons, or do we have energy weapons (lasers, or plasma) as well?
