Re: MESSENGER
I think ill have to retake class on space body, mass isnt the "gross weight without the gravity effect? thus would include the density? Or is mass, in this case, a synonym of "planet size" Mass is just mass. The attribute of matter measured on a balance. Gravity is proportional to mass and inversel...

Re: MESSENGER
I thought that the surface gravity and the size of the gravity well would be related. how is that possible? Mercury has less mass but notably higher density...more of it is iron rather than rock. Saturn has just over 1 g of "surface" gravity despite having 95 times the mass of Earth. Neptune has sl...

Re: MESSENGER
That is very cool, looking at the photos Messenger sent back from its flybys, it got me thinking about the feasibility of building facilities on a close, tide locked planet like Mercury. With all those craters, there are lots of places that are covered in shadow even as you move away from the termi...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense
Well it is true just look at what some people did post lately http://www.digitalwebbing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1711932&postcount=6 Scientist tended to believe that planet bigger than earth would only be found around the same distance of their sun than our earth. No only those are closer to the s...

Re: MESSENGER
Just a heads up...MESSENGER is to enter orbit around Mercury on the 18th, just 10 days from now. It's been a long trip... About the same amount of time it took Cassini to reach far more distant Saturn. Celestial mechanics, fascinating. And New Horizons zipped past Saturn orbit on its way to Pluto i...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense
The structures, even civilian ones, use what I call magnetic reinforcement. The short description is that strong magnets are placed inside the walls and the concrete mix used for the walls is saturated with iron. (Question, could something like this actually work?). The downside of this is that it ...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense
Well you know, we aren't the standard for the universe. a lots of scientist have for granted that solar system should mostly be all looking like our. In the end they were proven wrong on many case. Even if that were true (it's not), it wouldn't be even remotely comparable. So why do alien spices wo...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense
Some other species developed energy-based weapons even before they achieved interstellar flight and thus have advanced energy weapons while their kinetic weapons would correspond to those we had during WWI. This progression doesn't make much sense to me. For starters, we're developing our first ene...

Re: Awww
well it would be easy to just set your clock to the right number and post your message to the number you need. The post time stamp is based on the server time, so you would have to post at the right time. Everybody would have to use a custom time display format to get finer resolution than minutes,...

Re: Test Forums
JPEG is particularly inefficient for things like line art. PNG is generally better than GIF, that 7.8K GIF compressed to a 4.7K PNG, and both are better for things that can be reduced to a small number of colors and have large areas of flat color than JPEG. Could get it even smaller by going to 16 c...

Also, another forum system you might look at is http://www.phorum.org/. It seems reasonably full featured without being bloated. Can't say how it compares to phpBB in terms of administration and maintenance, though.
