Re: Map of the Steppes (Seren-Tinza) Front

The fact that a safe exit from hyperspace appears to require a gravity well of appreciable size. So save for the very unlikely and almost non existent black hole in our stellar back yard, a "deep Space" exit isnt going to happen. its my guess that black holes have enough gravity to them that you co...

Re: Glowing Uniforms?

The rank tabs are lit as a sign that the officer is on duty at a bridge position. Prior to that point, Stillstorm was just standing/sitting listening to the diplomatic discussion. Note that Tempo's, Beryl's, and Fireblade's tabs are also not lit. Answer to when I asked a similar question in this th...

Re: Couple questions

Promotion is not necessarily a good reward for success in combat, there are numerous examples throughout history of men who whilst brilliant (or at least effective) when in charge of a certain size of unit proved unsuited to higher command and rapidly became out of their depth when promoted to high...

Re: Page 88

First, remember how sparse the fossil record is. Lack of earlier fossils doesn't necessarily mean populations more similar to modern humans didn't exist, they may have just been a relatively minor player for a while. Also, intervention might not have been directly genetic, they may have culled out ...

Re: Page 88

@captainsmirk The Soia might not have ever disappeared or the collapse of their empire did destroy them totally; the idea of mankind being designed/altered has not yet be dismissed by the story (though it maybe that all the species the Loroi have had contact with were modified by the Soia in such a...

Re: Page 88

Except Fireblades interrogation didn't work. They didn't get any information (or at least any useful information) out of Alex when they scanned him. So I'm guessing it's a bit more indepth than that. Maybe it's a sales recipt? On the basis of Like Reality Except, our fossil record is still there, a...

Re: Page 88

as has been said a million times before, amateurs talk about strategy, professionals talk about logistics, the loroi have logistical problems(as proven by lack of ordnance shown in the comic), ANY help there should be appreciated. Where is the evidence of logistical problems in SG-51's current lack...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

As far as we know the "jamming" (if that is what it is) is only effecting the Naam system, equally the Loroi far-seers must have been able to pick up something, otherwise SG51 and it (less fortunate) fellows would presumably not been dispatched in the first place... Indeed Tempo's description of the...

Re: Armor values

At the ranges at which most battles are fought I imagine it is easy enough to turn to face your opponent very rapidly without the need for all-round firing turrets. Note also that although generally mounted on the front of the ship most Loroi weapons actually have very wide fire arcs, according to t...

Re: Page 85

I doubt the Mannadi are going to prove much of a problem, they've been quaratined for the better part of 600 years which I would take to mean they have no access to the advanced ships or construction facilities they would require to be a threat. Also the Loroi are only stretched thin at the front be...

Or perhaps better yet apply the old adage "Discretion is the better part of Valour" :D

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Based on the concept art I'd have said its a TT Superheavy, whilst the silhouettes are only representative they are also the ones Arioch has produced and thus quite likely to be the ones that get used in the comic. However this is possibly more evidence of something unusually going on in Naam, since...

Re: Page 84

Does anyone else think it was dumb to put the Escort Cruiser out front in Van Squadron in the first place? According to Arioch's Insider article, CLE type ships don't carry any pulse beam cannons, so they can't defend themselves against heavier opponents. IMO, the Winter Tide should have been held ...

On a slightly related note is there a reason that Stillstorm's rank insignia only starts glowing on page 73 or is it simply a change in artistic style?

Re: page 82

I think the problem here is not that this wouldn't in some way increase the effectiveness of humanities existing weapons but what would be the point? Fighting really isn't an option for us, we're already not just at a large technical disadvantage but also a (probably even larger) numerical disadvant...

Re: So, hm, speech?

Given that it is supposed to be a universal language of communication I doubt there are going to be massive differences between dialects. I fact it would actually seem counterproductive to have differing dialects at all but I'm assuming those are a result of the hundreds of thousands of years dividi...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

IIRC we currently use lasers, missiles and mass drivers. Compared to the ships fighting in the comic, these are peashooters. Thought I don't see any reason why a Terran ship with a refitted power source couldn't mount newer weaponry. well i don't think the human weapons are quite so inferior after ...

Re: So, hm, speech?

The difference would seem to mostly be minor differences in vocabulary, based on the small number of terms Alex has not understood when talking to the Loroi (speaking Loroi dialect as opposed to the Orgus dialect that he would have been taught).
