Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I tend to think it's not a tablet or pda, it looks too small and fat for that. My guess would be something that can be opened judging by the rubber grips, something of use in an emergency situation... pocket size first aid kit, geiger counter, air analyzer or something along those lines...

Ruggerized tablets/smarphones exist nowadays, and anything with big battery pack for longer uptime far from the charger will be bulky. Plus if it's a space rated device, it'd have to be bulky because the user will be expected to use it while suited up, and because it'd have to be hardened against the vacuum, radiation and temperature extremes. As for computing capabilities, well, another ~120 years of development could mean, that you can put in quite powerful processors into even single purpose devices*, let alone arming your tablet equivalent with a wide array of sensors, where the only limits would be space, and energy consumption.entity2636 wrote:I tend to think it's not a tablet or pda, it looks too small and fat for that. * If you are into playing with this kind of stuff, you can find a lot of guides/recipes/pre-made toys, built around Raspberry Pi or clones, or the even more barebone Arduinos or ESP2286/ESP32 boards. The latter ones are Wifi and Bluetooth capable so you don't have to mess with wires.

That image suggests the pad interacts with ship systems wirelessly, so I'm guessing turning it on could be a bad time. Of course, that assumes the pad interacts with ship systems actively rather than receiving a continuous stream of information (which would probably be slightly more power-efficient but perhaps not efficient enough to bother with, compared to the versatility of having an interactive system.)Arioch wrote:http://well-of-souls.com/outsider/outsider008.htmlentity2636 wrote:I tend to think it's not a tablet or pda, it looks too small and fat for that. Combined maybe?
Wonder if it contains some basic data from sensors.

After days of hard work trying to crack it they succeed and Beryl, eager to find insights in human culture start to browse it's cultural files and then stumble on the owners pornstash...GeoModder wrote:"Gad darn it!"

Which is culture in its own way, though likely not a representation of actual mating habits....
I wonder if, when Beryl also finds a Pizza recipe, she would make him one, (or something looking similar), expecting it to be an hors d'oeuvre for something else.... It's not as if she would expect him to eat it anyway....

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
What if it contains information about Emu war?
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Yeah, that's about right.
Now image a head the size of your fist on top, and that's more or less the proportions of an Emu.
That was a glorious war against these non-thinking, flightless birds!

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Note that he still wears the same shirt under his overall. If that is because he didn't change outfits, I think he's grumpy because neither Beryl nor Talon are incliined to give him a bit of privacy.
