"500 - Internal Server Error" Problems

For the last day or so, the board has been experiencing a lot of "500 - Internal Server Error" responses. It appears that my web host may be having some problems, possibly with their php. Please bear with me while I try to get this worked out.

In the meantime, reloading the failed page is an effective (if tedious) workaround.

I recommend copying the contents of every post before you post it as I've had a couple posts eaten by the errors.

Although the server folks have not yet responded to my query, it looks like the problem has stopped. So I'm going to unstick this and pray the problem is fixed.

I'd say your hosting provider needs to get his PHP 4=>5 transition sorted out. I broke a bunch of stuff when I moved my clients and myself to PHP5, and had to spend some time getting my scripts up to snuff.

could this be related to MS framework updates, since I've been getting error on other webpages and some webcomic server have crashed

I just had one trying to edit a post...it didn't even pause to think about it, just went straight to the error page.

silly question but did anyone (like say, the owner) actually googled what error 500 is, and the solution to solve it?

500 is a generic error, that doesn't give you any information about what was wrong. It just means the server failed to fulfill the request.

I submitted a help request when the error first started, but I never got any response from my web host (which is Yahoo). I have an error log file in which php errors are records for my scripts, but this 500 error is internal to the server, and does not appear in that log, so there's nothing I can do about it on my end. I suspect they were just having some kind of problem with the php, likely an issue moving from one version to another. If it starts up with a vengeance again, I will try to escalate the issue.

I wonder if there's a pattern to who's having the errors. Is there anyone who's having the errors now who wasn't last time?

I got them last time but not this time and between then and now I put together a new computer so I wonder if maybe there's something that changed there.

Last time these errors occured more often, this time i got only two or three in the last two days. So i don´t think it´s related to your new machine, but more like good luck by low "statistical noise".

I don;t know what happen but the outsider main site and forums weren't able to be accessed for about two hours.

I got this error for mysqu system error: 54 [2013]

The whole DNS was going in and out for a while; I'm assuming the host was having some serious server problems for a bit there.

The errors have not "gone away." I can reproduce them at will. And, I still suspect it's a PHP scripting problem; as I said before, going from 4 to 5 has screwed up half the world. Everybody's scripts need rework to be compliant.
