Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
What is the Loroi word for "tap (e.g. a barrel of beer; a maple tree)" and the Umiak word for "un-tap (same)"? Because in line with the old tilted-T tap symbol, I'd like to do a "tilted Trade T" tap symbol and a "tilted Umiak 'untap'" untap symbol for an Outsider-themed MTG set :3
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
The literal meaning of "tap" would be an odd translation for the MTG action of "tap". You might consider pinno "consume, deplete," and pozoli "refill, restore."CJ Miller wrote:What is the Loroi word for "tap (e.g. a barrel of beer; a maple tree)" and the Umiak word for "un-tap (same)"? I don't have an Umiak lexicon, sorry.
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Hmm... they can't both be tilted Ps, that'd be too confusing. I might do tilted-L (lashri "deactivate") for "tap" and tilted-P (piio "charge") for "untap".

( can be paid with any two mana or with . This card's converted mana cost is 10.)
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Trade doesn't have a word for mana, so you could either just use the word "mana," or perhaps manzatrin which means "sorcery."CJ Miller wrote:( can be paid with any two mana or with . This card's converted mana cost is 10.)
(subject) any two mana using or using can be paid. this card changed mana cost (subject) 10 seems to be.

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Mana is fine. I'll use manzatrin for the sorcery card type.

Would a loroi Magic player be offended by the use of the imperative on abilities such as "Populate." or "Planeswalk."?
More to the point, is it grammatically correct?

What is the Loroi word for Psi abilities as a whole?
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
I found a better way to force RTL than typing everything backwards...
It's a Unicode control character called RIGHT-TO-LEFT OVERRIDE. On Windows, you can get to it with Alt+8238 (or 202E, Alt-X in Word). When you need to switch from Trade to English, there's POP DIRECTIONAL FORMATTING (Alt+8236 or 202C, Alt-X).

Loroi NirreisCarl Miller wrote:What's the name of the Loroi Union in Trade?
cape (landform): taneis
democratic: bomoin besed ("mob rule")
equator: serronles
island: lenzat
land: tirot ("dirt, ground"), loris ("place, land")
line: neia
north: pinzii
of: mi
popular/people's: lerris ("public")
principality/emirate: seseir ("dictatorship")
rich: renner
state: lonote
to unite: nirreisi
virgin: sal bodat ("have not copulated")
That's what I have at present.
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
democratic: bomoin besed ("mob rule")
More seriously: To calque the Latin term directly, republic (res publica, lit. “public thing”) could be lerrimilol or similar. Similarly, “democracy” could be pelobesed (“common-rule”, cf. Gk. dēmokratía), and “federal” could be “bonzarba” (to agree, cf. Lat. foedus “covenant”) or derived therefrom.
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
No but seriously the lexicon entry for "middle, center" is still borked.
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
I'm aware. I'm in Canada at the moment; there's nothing I can do about it right now.Carl Miller wrote:No but seriously the lexicon entry for "middle, center" is still borked.

Thanks for the sentiment, but there's no fun to be had here.Carl Miller wrote:Have fun in Canada.
