[RP]Tobi das Sireis mi Rimil [IC] - The Razor's Edge

The year is 1681. The galaxy is at peace and trade is flourishing. The sheer amount of wealth carried up and down the local trade routes has exponentially increased the number of freebooters on the fringes of Loroi space.

The date is Month 33, transit 1, day 1. The Rapier-class exploratory cruiser Razor's Edge, helmed by Torrai Mazeit Ramarinzil, had just jumped in pursuit of a band of Tanuki marauders into the neighborhood of a dusty, metal-deficient yellow star that they had decided to provisionally name Shodan. It was only a few moments later that the ship's helmsman, Tenoin Narrat Lirontezir, spotted a Tanuki squadron on the ship's sensors and began accelerating the Razor's Edge towards the bandits. Only mere seconds after coming into firing range, an unexpectedly large pocket of the corrosive dust that was prevalent in the system was drawn into the engines' radiator fans and instantly ionized, creating a cataclysmic overheating that swept through the ship. It took only seconds for this buildup to flame out the engines. The resulting rush of built up electromagnetic energy not only disabled the ship's sensors, but acted as a beacon of which Marauders operating from one of the barely habitable planets in the system were only too happy to take advantage.

As the Razor's Edge lay disabled amidst the thick cosmic dust, the planetary reinforcements began to lay what could most charitably be described as light covering fire on the Loroi vessel, and the commodore responded in kind, turning the ship's beam weapons on the locals through its planets thin atmosphere and giving the order to Narrat Lirontezir to charge the jump drive. Eventually, though, the Tanuki, bolstered by the planetary covering fire, landed the knockout blow on the Razor's Edge by dropping a torpedo dead center on its control systems, knocking out the main weapons systems, point defense, and most of its life support with a single critical hit. Within seconds, half of the ship's crew perished as the hull on the lower decks was ripped open, venting much of the ships supply of oxygen before the bulkheads could be lowered. Over 170 crew members died that very instant from exposure and asphyxiation.

On the bridge:

Smoke filled the room. One console was set on fire by the first impact, it's user its user extinguishing the flames with a nearby foam canister..

"SHIT! What the hell was that?" Ramarinzil shouted out in surprise as the explosion rocked the ship, knocking her and any unsecured bridge crew around with a harsh groaning of it's structure.

The fire systems officer, Soroin Nedeil Leneda, slowly rose to her feet, responding coldly and without emotion. "One of the enemy combatants seems to have hit us with a projectile weapon, possibly an Antimatter Torpedo.

The understatement was not lost on Ramarinzil, that was definitely an Antimatter Torpedo. The mere fact that these pirates had something like this hidden away for a rainy day spoke volumes to the issues this sector had with piracy.

Ramarinzil glares, her response colored with irritation. "Jump drives?" She glanced down and punched in a few commands, only to find that her terminal was frozen. "Damnit, Narrat! We need to get the hell out of here before we become part of the scenery!"

Ramarinzil's focus immediately fell upon her helmswoman, who was in dire straights, bleeding from multiple shrapnel wounds.
Narrat Lirontenzir, the helmsman in question spoke up with surprising fortitude, in between pained breaths, as she lay limply against the back seat of her chair, clutching what most likely was a broken shoulder. "Not quite... enough... we could jump now... but not even... the Spirits... can tell where... we would end up..."

Ramarinzil grumbled, weighting her options as the planetary forces continued to rain down fire. "Fuck the Spirits then... Get us out of here." She ran over to the helmsman's chair, shoving its occupant, who was no longer conscious anyway, out of the way. Seconds later she had personally entered the necessary string of commands to Jump herself, deftly choosing a nearby, highly radioactive red dwarf star. They would surely be lost in it's signature with plenty of time to recover and send for reinforcements.

Before the ship would finally find safety, over 300 of its crew members would die, lost to the cold grasp of outer space, fires, and other environmental hazards aboard the ship.

They were not the first to fall that day. Nor would they be the last.
The Razor's Edge snapped into a new course with a rumbling jolt, and the visual representation of their current location snapped to black, replaced by a graphical representation of their jump, displaying a high energy red dwarf star.

The hyperspace engines whined loudly, spooling up for their jump. Then a bright red warning flashed onto the display with an obnoxiously loud alarm.

«Helm!?» Ramarinzil's mental signature carried over the alarm, the pitch and vibration of the hyperspace engines creating a foreboding atmosphere to those around her.

Lirontezir responded, weakly and at the end of her rope.

"Engines... Sub-critical... We get... One jump... Maybe two..."

She was becoming weaker by the second.

"Detecting secondary Anti-Matter torpedo launch signatures."

Leneda's calm and collected voice was usually a comforting factor, but a deep sense of resignation spread through the crew with her words.

"The Warning code?"

"Code... 1737... Drive related structural integrity failure..."

"We can not take another hit. Get us a lock!"

"Locked in... Looks like a... M2V class red dwarf star... High radiation signature... We'll lose them in the noise... Calculating..."

Her voice faded... a quick snap of Ramarinzil head confirmed that she was still conscious.

"I'm estimating 25 solon until impact."

«Lirontezir?»

"I need... More time... Gravitational signature is..."

"15 solon until impact. Shields remain offline."

«Lirontezir. Now! Punch it!»

Seconds passed, and then the ship lurched forwards, groaning as it's bulkheads absorbed the sudden shock, turning every living occupants stomach as they felt their masses pull to the side, a telltale sign of a problem with the jump drive.

The screen displayed a signature, and changed in the second of space travel, displaying not one, but two red dwarf stars.

They were heading for a binary system.

There was no time to curse or pray however, as the Razor's Edge missed the double star, and the screen went white. Another stomach turning lurch made the inner supports of the Rapier class cruiser groaned and bent under the gravitational stress, springing back to their intended shape as the instant passed.

The deck was eerily quiet, and then a rapid deceleration threw the crew, as well as any loose object forwards.

Then it was dark.

(Soundtrack)

All over the ship, the voices of those in pain re-appeared, and those that were dying slowly faded as the seconds passed. The crew sobbed collectively in the darkness. Some cried for help and others begged to be spared, some trapped or burning, others slowly suffocating from a hull breach.

Then light was restored, and red emergency lights flooded the ravaged bridge. The intense desperation faded, turning into careful relief and instructions of help, flooding those receptive to their reports of wounding and fires on nearly all decks of the Razor.

The ships computers however, remained dark, and so did the external view.

Blood covered Ramarinzil's face as she lifted herself from the terminal that she'd slammed into. It was her own mistake for refusing to clasp shut her seat belts, but she made no call for medical aid. It was nothing more then a bloody nose and it'd surely fix itself.

«Captain to Bridge crew... Who is still able to function?»

Nerala was thrown from her seat after the rapid deceleration of the vessel. Fortunately, her injuries were not fatal. Lifting herself from the floor, she speak to Ramarinzil:

" It seems that I suffered only minor injuries, Captain. I fear that the others sisters are not faring well."

She made her way to her seat and tried to contact the medical bay:

"The computers are not responding... It seems that the main generator is out and the backup generator is not working well. What are your orders, Captain?"

Nagatonzir rolled over with a groan and sat up. Her last memory was of everything going sideways as the ship dropped out of FTL.

As Nagatonzir began to take stock of her circumstances in the corridor, she became aware of a horrid pain in her left wrist; bent at an unnatural angle and already starting to swell.

She quickly clutched her wrist to her body before standing and searching out a nearby first aid kit.

«Sisters, group on me if you are able.»

After her brief and limited communication Nagatonzir got to work splinting her wrist while waiting to see how many of her sisters were nearby enough, and able, to respond.

All but launched from her seat at the sudden deceleration, Tinel's forward momentum was, fortunately, stopped by one of the consoles!...

Less than fortunately, as her breath exploded from her mouth in a 'Whuff!', the console and physics also decided that a cracked rib was the appropriate penance. Bouncing off the edge and falling to the deck, Tinel waits for the universe to stop spinning, taking slow breaths to test the magnitude of her injury, which likely would have been far worse were it not for her armor, the bio-plas absorbing enough of the impact to keep it from being fatal...

Convinced that it's nothing that can't wait, the dark haired Loroi slowly sits up with a slight grimace as her only real reaction, aside from the hesitation of her movements. Looking around as her head clears, she sanzai's in turn towards her captain... <<Mizol Sanzet Tinel, captain. Alive and responding presently. Your orders?>> A wry smirk crosses her face, most likely unseen in the questionable lighting as she can't help but add, though only in her own mind, Though you'll pardon if I refrain from singing in joy for the moment.

Doranzer Disis Baizomarir awoke doubled over in a corner, the room seeming to spin as a headache split her head wide open, and she was dimly aware of the fact that there was puke all over her uniform.

After some moments, she stood up, walked slowly over to the nearest chair, and unceremoniously
plonked herself into it.

«I'm awake now, Nagatonzir... and could probably use being looked at. Where exactly are you?»

Ramarinzil stood up from her chair, still bleeding heavily by the nose, and bellowed loudly, the microphone on her collar had been unable to amplify her commands since the power outage, but at least the acoustically shaped bridge could make her voice be heard.

"Sisters! Those who can still move, help those that cannot! Those who can walk, help those who can move! Those whom can still run, Put down every goddamned fire you see! Do not let the Razor fall victim to lowly Tanuki pirates!"

She rotated around, and then her eye fell on Nerala.
Ramarinzil had barely finished talking as the ships sensor suite suddenly came online, displaying a hellishly bright field of gaussian noise that sharply underlined her features, before sparking and turning off, returning the bridge to it's gloomy half-lit state.

"Nerala, Don't waste your time with the consoles, go bring a medic, with haste."

It took a second for Ramarinzil to recognize the Envoy, even though she just stated her name. Then she lowered her voice just a tiny bit and nodded at Nerala with a small sideways flick of her head.

"Tinel, You are of no use here. Go with Nerala and make contact with our Teidar Pallan if you can. Securing a Medic for the bridge crew is your secondary priority. Third is Damage Control and triage, Understood?"

When the Torrai Mazeit turned to Nerala, one of the displays came back on and illuminated Ramarinzil face with a hellishly light, making her features fearsome for those looking at it. After the display went offline, the Listel used all her courage to respond.

"Y-yes, Mazeit! On my way..."

She run to the door hoping that it was not damaged our was out of power. The machine opened with her sundely aproach. At the moment she came out of the Command Deck, she began to sanzai in open frequency:

«To any Doranzer that can hear this. There are wounded sisters in the Command Deck that need medical assistance !»

Tinel stands, testing the limits of her injury and nodding in response to her captains orders, <<Understood completely, Maziet.>> she sanzai's in turn, moving to accompany Nerala off the bridge, leaning against the wall of the lift a moment to let the burning in her side lessen just a little as she orders her thoughts, forcing herself to straighten with a very faint grimace thereafter... The Mizol doesn't say anything to her companion immediately, looking her over and trying to get an idea of Nerala's state of mind...

The pain in her side is still there, and in force, though Tinel refuses to show it for the moment in the presence of those who are far worse off than she, instead making a silent mental note to pilfer a painkiller when she can. After a moment, she activates her uniforms comm, recalling the name of the Teidar in question, "Pallan Nagatonzir, your location?" she queries, her tone as even as it ever was.

Nagatonzir frowns slightly at the response to her call, silently cursing herself for not being closer to the bridge before the ship started jumping, and begins issuing orders to those few in range.

«Pideir, Make contact with the bridge, the rest, in groups of 2 or 3 begin rescue operations, I'm going to get our Disis.»

Shortly afterwards Nagatonzir shoves the door open into Baizomarir's room and gives her a brief look of contempt at her location.

«Get up Disis, there is a triage location nearby where you are needed, are there any supplies here you can utilize?»

Nagatonzir ruffles through drawers and grabs the first aid kit out of this room, as well as the portable fire extinguisher.

«Pallan Nagatonzir, your location?»

«Midship, level 4 on the port side, I have sent some Pideir to make contact with the bridge, they can guide you to me.»

Baizomarir gets up, leaning a little to the left, and starts clumsily groping across the desk leg for a drawer handle.

«Would you by chance, Teidar Pallan, have a hypo spray on you? I seem to be in need of one.»

She starts rubbing her hand across the surface of the drawers, and finds the handle she's looking for, grabbing it and opening the drawer to which it's attached to reveal a medium-sized cream-colored pouch. It takes her a moment to get her hand around it, but eventually it makes its way into her possession.

Tinel makes her way to the indicated compartment after making contact with the Pideir in question, bypassing damaged sections as necessary, to make contact with the Pallan, as ordered, calling in her contact to the captain, "Maziet, I have contact with the Teidar Pallan. She appears injured, though functional." she reports, her tone mild, "I will assist with recovery operations momentarily once I've ascertained the condition of the Doranzer..."

With that, she moves to assist where she can, starting with the Doranzer themselves. It really won't do anyone any good if those who have the more complete medical training succumb to a lack of medical care...

As Nerala move through the ship, she saw a multitude of small electrical fires, as well many dead crewwomen, the smell of burning flesh is present in some places and small crews of firefighters were desperately trying to save the precious circuitry.

It doesn't look like the fires are out of control however, and the structural integrity of the ship is at the very least in one piece, and though smoke is spreading through the ship, she doesn't feel short of breath in the hallways, suggesting only minor air leakage at most.

As she was coming close to the Medibay, she felt the presence of other two Loroi. Tinel was the first to enter the room and began to help Baizomarir.

« Doranzer Disis, the Mazeit is requesting medical assistance, there is someone under you command able to help? »

The Listel walks to the Teidar, who was still in pain.

« Sister, do you need help with the wrist? »

Nagatonzir kneels by Baizomar as she opens the first aid kit, taking longer than she would like due to her injured main hand, but only just, as her training has given her great ambidexterity just for these kinds of situations. After a short moment she selects the proper hypo-spray and jams it up Baizomarir's nose, applying the medicinal booster as close to the brain as possible.

Nagatonzir turns to see Tinel come through the door followed shortly by Nerala and nods at her briefly before signalling her to begin attending to the other Doranzer.

«Sanzet, please get as many of these Doranzer back to the corridor triage you passed on your way here. Then assist in search and rescue. Time is of the essence.»

Nagatonzir waves off Nerala as she is accosted, showing her that her wrist is already splinted and that she is not in need of further care at this time.

«There are Sisters in more need than me Tozet, take Disis Baizomarir to the triage, she should be feeling better momentarily.»

After that Nagatonzir moves to help Sanzet Tinel with the remaining medical personnel, her face set rather hard as she focuses on the task at hand.

Nagatonzir may use her arm for any non-load bearing activity.
Baizomarir's cranial swelling subsides somewhat, making her concussion bearable.

No HP is healed, but the symptoms are abated.

Tinel's communication falls on deaf ears, for when she finishes her speech, the lights flicker once again, the red lights turning full dark for a second or two, and then a soft rumble spreads through the ship as generators begin to start up again, allowing the normal ceiling lights to operate dimly, then fail five or so seconds later with a loud, crackling noise from the lower decks that plunges the ship in darkness once more, suggesting a problem with the capacitors or perhaps the power plant itself. There is not much time to worry about it however, as somewhere deeper in the ship, something explodes violently.

You can all feel a collective, psychic gasp of relief when the loud sound remains just that, and the ship is neither rocked nor torn asunder, and the battery powered red emergency lighting slowly ignites once more. All that's left is a creaking of the ships broken back, as well as the uncommon bleating alarm...

Soundtrack

Smoke and something chemical scents the air, and the sudden silence on board reveals that the ventilation systems are no longer working. Then there's activity again, and all of you can clearly hear a resurgance of vocal commands as well as sanzai, as everyone returns to their suffering and their desperate battle against the new electrical fires that the shortout created.

With little else she can do for the moment, Tinel avails herself of any firefighting equipment that might be handy, if any... And does what she can against the new round of damage, swearing to herself mentally and making a note-to-self to get down to engineering and see if there is anything to be done about the ventilation systems.

That, or learn to breathe in a vacuum, which isn't training she's eager to undertake. After a few moments, she sanzai's to those nearby, <<I'll make for engineering momentarily. Does anyone have communications at all?>> she queries in that oddly detached mind-tone of hers, asking the obvious if only to rule it out and discard it before moving on.
