Loroi Fancomic

Post by bunnyboy »

The thread In Loroitown inspired me an idea.
Fancomic of one or couple of loroi visiting on /modern?/ earth and exploring things.

I would like to draw each month a short strip, but I'm poor with ideas.
For example, I can't decide myself, if they loroi would be from pre war (as they are today), middle war (as in outsider) or after war (when we are actually ready to visit).
Also, number of loroi, their appearance, names, behavior, what makes them catchy, what they meet, I would like to hear your suggestions. Either here or PM.
And lastly, it would be great if any other artist can also join on this.

I used to have fun playing Frontier in the days. There are some similarities and some huge differences between how space navigation is done in Frontier and Loroiverse. One little thing in Frontier was the concept of misjumps, this is when an intend jump end up somewhere else altogether, typically in between star systems and often further away then your ships jump range would normally allow.

Misjumps was caused either deliberately to escape pursuers due to it's unpredictable nature but most often by a hyperdrive in need of service. After a misjump the drive was typically in even verse condition and if it wasn't turned to rubbish already, one better just trust it for a single more jump. Better hope that last jump would take you somewhere civilized but if the game engine had thrown you to the other side of the galaxy, you where out of luck. Interestingly enough, when there where plenty of hand placed systems in Frontier, there where also lot's of automatically seeded, named and sometimes colonized systems, even on the other side of the galaxy! One could hack the game to allow for visits there but those where struggling colonies and I used to consider them "misjump colonies". Fate had ordered those poor souls that here you must settle down because you cannot get anywhere else.

Maybe your early visitor to earth came here in a similar fashion? They "disappeared" into hyperspace somewhere but where dropped out again far away from where they started and as such had to settle for visiting earth because we are all that is left in range. Maybe their hyper drive are broken now our they are out of anti matter fuel and earth are yet unable to to provide a refuel for them.

Actually I had a similar idea where an early Loroi ship misjumps to earth about two thousand years ago or some such and eventually the survivors enter out myths about elves and the lady of the lake that gave King Arthur Excalibur would then be one of those survivors giving him a sword made of alloys from the crashed ship. Need a "faerie queen"? Another survivor and so on. Eventually they die out of old age and the elves are gone. Unless they got males with them and are still in hiding.

Good luck with your fan comic.

I would be all in, but I can't write scripts. I just draw boxes and stick figures until they give appearance of something I want.

To the rescue. Steven Tomas, a parking guard that have to deal with a missparked Loroi shuttelcraft taking up 11 spots of parking space and have failed to pay for any of them. Besides three cars are blocked from leaving the parking place due the the shuttle craft blocking the way out.

For the fat loroi: Farseer (due to their rarity they get away with more), spoken name Longsight, unofficial spoken name "Fat Bitch". Caused the misjump by unwittingly effecting the ships gravity sensor by the meaning of placing her candy stash, and herself (during the candy sessions) in the gravity sensors room. Gravity sensors are placed in the middle of a fairly large, otherwise empty room and calibrated to ignore the mass of the ship and crew. That is as long as said crew stay away from the sensor room and do not use it as a store room for candy. Thus farseer Longsight, and candy was registered as a major gravity well, aka a planet and caused miscalculations in the ships navigational computer...

*hasn't

Also, I think the loroi shuttle would actually land on an Interstate, given that every fifth mile of the interstate system is designed to be perfectly straight so it can be used as an airstrip in wartime.

No need for that, it is a VTOL craft. Bedsides they saw that that the interstate was filled with moving transportation robots (no life forms detected). The parking lot had a few of those robots as well but they where stationary at the time.

Did you edit your post, because I dont remember seeing this before now?

Well, in this time (in year 2015 and around) loroi live era of peace and expansion. And they do get more energy from their food than humans, and with their smaller populations, their ordinary meal could put american thanksgiving dinner to shame.

But do not fear, not the whole crew will be like her.

Yes I added some. TVtropes have this concept "bunny ears lawyer" for the concept of specialists that are so good at what they do that they can get away with things others cannot. Farseers by virtue of being farseers fill this niche nicely. Any odd quirk will probably be overlooked to an high degree. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... EarsLawyer

I understand that loroi are not really capable to become fat due to their digestion system rejecting any excess nutrients but there could be some suffering from a genetic defect that eliminate this functionality. Most having this defect will probably cope well anyway but it would allow for the rare obese loroi. Most of those would probably end up on the bottom of the social ladder, that is unless they have farseer capability or something else in high demand. Add to this a ship captain bitching about getting a farseer assigned to her ship long enough and she may end up with a fatto with no common sense!
