Yeah, definitely a Fireblade-infused dream.

I mean, it's a given that this is Fireblade's memory. I figured that he was sort of sharing her perspective. But now I wonder if he's sort of co-dreaming it with her, two characters in the same story.

Well Beryl told him to relax earlier on. So, I would assume that in sleep, he is more 'relaxed' and therefore more susceptible to the Loroi's telepathy. Question is whether he is really taking the place of Fireblade in that dream or whether she is just warning him/he will meet her in that dream.

Wandering in the chaos the battle has left, we climb up the mountain of human Lorei flesh...

I would've named the thread "Duck!"

Because Alex will need to duck soon, once the adversaries have him in his sights.
And because the dream-adversaries will start duck hunting once they sight him.
Vote for Outsider on TWC: Image
charred steppes, borders of territories: page 59,
jump-map of local stars: page 121, larger map in Loroi: page 118,
System view Leido Crossroads: page 123, after the battle page 195

Time to introduce Fireblade into the psychosis that is human dreaming! (doubt that's next, but a frog the size of a St Bernard casually eating Umiak while spouting the benefits of ataraxia and aponia is fun to imagine)
Alternatively: Alex as that damn dog.

From Alex' perspective, it's the loroi that are hot!

hi hi

I'm loving the (presumed) telepathy bubbles. They've been a long time coming, but were definitely worth the wait. I wonder if there's any particular inspiration?

I'm assuming that among the Loroi present, Reed at least knows something about Alex's regular nightmares, since he mentioned having nightmares 'again,' when Reed woke him up to get on the shuttle. So if he jolts awake in an agitated state, it should be at least somewhat expected.

I had initially planned to use a modified version of the narration bubble (which is appropriate to what's actually happening): rectangular with some sort of spikes on the edges. This was also similar to how the Pinis portrayed telepathic communication in Elfquest. But I found that using a custom shape didn't work, as resizing the rectangle distorts the shapes, and it didn't look the way I had imagined it anyway.

So I did some more research on bubble styles and digital techniques, and I saw some really interesting examples. Unfortunately, Photoshop can't do all the tricks with vector shapes that Illustrator does (which is what most professional letterers use), so I came up with is a combination of elements: the spikes are more traditionally used as a "radio" or mechanical voice, and the dotted outline is more traditionally a "whisper" indicator.

The old school comic book telepathy bubbles are usually some variant of the thought bubble:

The other thing I liked about the telepathy in this page was that Alex didn't know which direction it was coming from.

Is that usual for telepaths do you think?

Is Alex remembering what Fireblade felt at the time? Or is it just because Alex is unfamiliar with the sensation?

SpoilerShow
This is a strange case, because Alex isn't actually "receiving" these telepathic messages -- he's experiencing someone else's memories of receiving telepathic messages. His brain interprets the message as a voice, but it's not coming through his ears, so he doesn't have a conscious sense of directionality. However, as may be inferred from the next page, he does actually know where it's coming from... though not consciously.
