The spammers are a pretty steady drizzle, and I suspect it will always be that way. There are currently two moderators, and we delete the spam posts as we see them.

Best thing to do as a user is to hit the report button and quietly ignore the spam until it vanishes.

Keep regular back ups. Once you garner some attention you'll get all manner of toads trying to spam the place, hack it or crash it. All phpbb based forums I did got targeted in this manner over the last 4 years. Ruudje at sierra chest gets the same problems.
