Is this Barsam Ex Machina or Checkoves Barsam? He's close enough to send a video call to the main fleet. He might have been the closest ship to be lend aid.

To think, all this could have been avoided if they'd just got on the courier in the first place.
If every cloud had a silver lining, there would be a lot more plane crashes.

Or perhaps you could say it is a Barsdam heroes moment.saint of m wrote:Also, Big Dam Barsam Heroes Moment

Yeah... But then we wouldn't have much of a storyRedDwarfIV wrote:To think, all this could have been avoided if they'd just got on the courier in the first place.

Maybe there's still hope that the below was prescient :entity2636 wrote:Yeah... But then we wouldn't have much of a storyRedDwarfIV wrote:To think, all this could have been avoided if they'd just got on the courier in the first place.

What is the origin of that drawing? Looks like Arioch's handiwork rather than fanart.
Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina
From what I remember, someone on the forums asked Arioch to sketch Beryl announcing that they were diverting to learn grass skirt dancing, and Arioch added the second panel. Not going to try to track down the post though.orion1836 wrote:What is the origin of that drawing? Looks like Arioch's handiwork rather than fanart.
Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina
The only thing funnier would be a sketch of Alex and Beryl in grass skirts (poorly) learning how to dance from Mozin. Are there any parts of Justa that look like Hawaii?
Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina
Oh, but why not? Obviously there is something Tempo wouldn't like Alex to hear from the Barsam (we know all too well what it would be...), and them being stuck on a Barsam ship, especially with Cpt. Mozin close by, Tempo would surely need to take double shifts to make sure that Alex is never around a Barsam unattended for an extended period of time.entity2636 wrote:Yeah... Heck, Tempo already didn't want to let him out of her sight even when he's planned to be around other Loroi, and no one else. Of course her getting out of Stillstorm's sight was a convenient line of reasoning, for sure.
There are lots of good stories spinning away from a setting like this. And Alex learning that it might be not all sunshine and roses inside the Union might provide another good set of plot hooks.

Want to place bets who'd be more mortified by that scene? Remember:orion1836 wrote:

- Loroi warriors are usually quite uncomfortable around their males, except in certain well-defined situations.
- On the other hand, they already do have some medical body scans from Alex,
- And I'm sure Beryl already got a good look at him, especially while peeling him out of his spacesuit and patching him up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spiral or Talon opened the suit while transporting him to the Tempest. They heard him go unconscious while radioing on the open frequency. So quick first aid was called for.novius wrote:And I'm sure Beryl already got a good look at him, especially while peeling him out of his spacesuit and patching him up.
Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina
Unlikely.
In emergency situations involving a species you never met before, you'll be very careful exposing "it" to your atmosphere.
Once you know it's breathing oxygen, an extra dosis into its suit, but other components of your atmosphere might kill "it".

Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina
I would agree if not for the apparent physical similarities. With the history of template species it is a very likely guess that both species breath roughly the same mixture.
And Alex fell unconscious only minutes before. So getting him quick oxygen would have been beneficial.
What do you guys think who went out of the shuttle and grabbed Alex? Spiral or Talon?

Spiral because she is the designated co-pilot and because they didn't know they were rescuing a male. If they did know it would be Talon.

He is an alien speaking an alien tongue, for all they knew from afar Alex was a tall four limbed teddy bear that lays eggs.

Dunno. They should have had him on their screens quite a while before they reached him. Depending on resolution and angle, they might have even seen his face from inside the Tempest.
He also gave them the name of his ship and home nation in Sanzai as well as a fine selection of human lyrics.
