Solo

Well, no spoilers, but that was a good movie. I'm much more satisfied with Howard than Abrams or Johnson. And unlike some movies, there were actual consequences inside it.

Might be just me but all I could think of was how cringeworthy the whole thing was.

Disney burned the franchise to the ground with Last Jedi. It's obvious they have no overarching story to tell with this "trilogy". It's nothing more than a nostalgia fueled money grab at this point, so I refuse to participate. To paraphrase James T. Kirk - "Let it die!"

My experience with the Disney-Star Wars so far has been summed up to:
  • - New Trilogy: Watchable-to-Bad
    - Anthology Movies: AMAZING
Solo falls in that second category, evidently.

Personally I liked Rogue One much better. But Solo more amusing in some ways. Can we start putting in spoilers now?

I thought it was a 'meh' Star Wars movie. It relied on "hey you remember THING?" and crammed all of Han's life events together too much for my liking. Although it did ensure that everything felt alive and.. Star Warsy.
It was a pretty great space adventure/heist movie. It was done competently, the effects were pretty good, the writing was for the most part solid, etc. I don't know if I'd watch it again, but I would certainly tell others to watch it at least once.
So while I think it could have been better (or should have been a short TV series), it was light years ahead of the Disney Trilogy. It feels like the only people who actually care or know about Star Wars are the ones doing these anthology movies.
