A little crossover fun

Playing a bit of Star Trek Online of late, and dug up an old crew from my past brushes with the game, the crew of the USS Nenzit, formerly of the USS Loizoshreiladi.

Left to right we have chief engineer Terei, chief tactical officer and ship's executive officer Birron, captain Selipeio, second tactical officer Mennel, and finally ship's science officer Maie. Back in the beta of the game I found that some of the uniform options can be manipulated to at least roughly emulate Loroi armor, but for now I'm keeping them in the old movie uniforms. I think they look spiffy. I hope to get them in an Akira or variant thereof before my current fling with the game ends, but they're not my primary crew, so they may not be so lucky.

(it's a conscious effort to not concoct a completely absurd bio for this crew about the bumpy integration of the Loroi military society into the federation :D)

(apologies for some of the cruddy compositing of the crew shot, it was a learning experience for me.)

In the game you can pick any number you want, and put a letter on the end if you want, so long as it is a nine followed by four digits. Probably to keep the player registry pool separate from any reasonable canon ships. And if you're super special, you can get an NX prefix!

I played in the Beta of that game. It was pretty fun but I never ended up subscribing.

The sheer variety of player names you could come across boggled the mind. Most of them made sense. But there were also the inevitable USS. WHERE IS SULU ships.

I flew a cruiser called the USS. Wings of Rain. But it was also a lot of fun PVPing people in the USS. QueueQueue. :P

It pains me greatly to deviate from the stock Akira, but this captain demands a pointy ship if possible, so pointy it is.

Tamren: My main is a cruiser captain. The two play styles are very different, and both quite fun. I think that's one of the successes of the game. One day I ought to play a science captain/ship and see if it's as distinct, but my impression is that it's mostly a cruiser with less gun and less tank, and more shenanigans.

I remember when they added the guys standing outside the admiral's office talking about where Sulu is. The beta was good times.

Oh yes indeed. Most ships have three different 'costumes', similar variants on a theme, and they are split into typically four segments that you can mix and match. That ship is tier 3 escort, one of the ones with the most diversity.

Near the end of the beta I made some customization videos to show off how this works. I've got one for every available starship at the time, there are few options that have opened up since, either new classes of ships or new costumes for existing classes, but they're the best resource I know of still. Well, I'm a member of the 15th Expeditionary Fleet. Gotta wear the fleet logo with pride!

Ultimately, it's a reference to all those bits of Homeworld concept art with 15s on the ships. The game's guilds, fleets of course, can make a fleet logo that you can substitute in for the federation logo on your ship.
