Bellarmine was not detected by the Loroi due to how Human Lotai *works*, however same thing happened the ship that fired on her. My guess would be that this ship is the prototype created by the Umiak to bypass the Loroi farseers and Bellarmine had a very unlucky jump destination. The only remaining information you get from the Loroi scans was the weapon type, a plasma based weapon commonly used by Umiak ships and Alex mentioning a yellowish beam (also the common color on Umiak plasma weapons).

i've been thinking this since #60, panel 3

I've had that feeling, overall, too; what in that particular panel seems to tip you off, though? I don't quite see what you're getting at.

You mean panel 4? (Panel 3 is in line 2, in black and white indicating Alexander's memory)

Well, Bellarmine was also not detected by classical sensors, as used by Humans, and not based on Lotai.
The proplyd material has been messing with Lotoi and technological based sensors...

So, it approached cloaked and invisible for Bellarmine sensors. It only decloak immediately before fire.
Actually, it was exiting a gas cloud. The material in the cloud had simply been blocking the view.

It appears that Tempo is casting an accusatory look toward the Historian ambassador when she says "Green". and his response is very deflective. I'm guessing Historian weapons are greenish colored.

and yes, I meant panel 4

Bellermines sensors where effected by the proplyd materials, in essence they are flying in a sandstorm. It is possible it was just in "silent running" mode and as such mistaken for an harmless asteroid until they got close enough. I got the impression that cloaking devices do not exist in the setting.

If proplyd was dense enough to block sensors at 850 km, it would be more like planet atmosphere than space vacuum.
On the other side loroi was able to detect umiak ships from range of light seconds, so it is not so dense. The Bellarmine was much further from them so they saw only weapon fire.

Actually, I think there are Darloks.
