On Page 73, Stillstorm addresses four of her subordinates. By the end of the first Umiak wave, one of them has been killedto remind the audience how dangerious the situation is. Naturally, the one wearing green dies.
I just thought I might mention this, and inquire whether this shall be a trend from now on.

Heh. It's not an intentional trend, but I guess the analogy is a good one -- the green-clad Soroin are the rank-and-file folks who have an increased chance of stopping bullets. But Outsider (being a war story) has a pretty high body count, and not all of them are minor characters wearing green.
As an aside, the fact that Nova was wearing green was intended to suggest that she was a field-promoted replacement, and early drafts of the script had suggestions that perhaps she wasn't up to the task. However, as she appeared in the comic and became the voice of the sensor reports, these notions evaporated and it was clear to me that any forward squadron in such an engagement was going to get the snot kicked out of it... that was just the price of keeping the heavier units at a distance.

Right. Winter Tide is an escort cruiser, meaning it's primary function is to act as a point defense screen for larger Loroi ships. Umiak heavies were out of it's size range to be able to stand up against.Arioch wrote:Heh. This does bring up an armament question. You know those *shoulder pauldron* cannons on the side of the Umiak heavies? What kind of plasma are those?
