Concept for the Highland, which is a large VIP transport shuttle with atmospheric capability.

Sorry for the delay. In addition to the usual distractions, there is still mechanical design work to do for the next few pages, and that sometimes holds me up a bit.

The Highland shuttle does fit into the Temepst hangar bay, but at a length of 50m.

An updated model sheet for Tempo.

'Cause I had never done one before. And the closest thing to, in addition to being crappy and out of date, doesn't show the back.

Now the only major character without a formal model sheet is -- you guessed it -- Alex, the main character.

I finally finished converting the last of the Prologue pages to the "new" larger format, so now the whole comic is at 825x1200 resolution. This is more work than it sounds like, because all the text and bubbles had to be shrunk and re-positioned, which sometimes exposed unfinished artwork underneath, and there were a few shoddy details that didn't stand up to scrutiny at the higher resolution, and had to be reworked.

In the interest of full disclosure, this is what was changed:
  • Page 2: Alex & Ellen's flesh colors were corrected.
  • Page 4: The distant battle in the first panel was redrawn.
  • Page 6: In the first two panels, the sensor screen image has been revised. Lt. Walker's dialogue has also been slightly altered; the main difference is that she now indicates that the distance to the bogey is 850 km rather than 60, which matches what is written on the display (which was too small to see previously).
  • Page 8: In the third panel, Sculley's pad display was cleaned up, and the brand has changed from a "Palm CXII" to a "Pad CXII".
  • Page 16: In the second panel, the text in the first narration bubble has been edited. The first sentence began, "As I ran out of goofy lyrics, my vision darkened and my head began to spin." It now reads, "At length, I began to have trouble remembering new goofy lyrics to translate. My vision darkened and my head began to spin."

Wrangling with the Highland shuttle interior. The current issue is managing the awkward transition from the external side doors, which are at about a 45 degree angle, to the interior. When built out in 3D, it becomes clear that there isn't enough space for the airlocks unless the seating is pushed aft, so I'm in the process of re-thinking the airlocks arrangement. I think there will have to be a kind of vestibule in the space between the cockpit and the passengers' cabin.
