Might sound a bit stupid that question, but: do Loroi eat meat other than those piccled squid things?
Do they have equivalents to cows, chicken or pigs and how do they look like?

Like humans, the Loroi will eat almost anything they can catch. On Deinar, the primary meat animal is the pig-like miros, which is descended from a Soira-Liron livestock animal. Various feral versions have fur of a color that helps them blend into their local environment, but domesticated versions often have fur of blue or other exotic colors (and they are sometimes bred as pets).Suederwind wrote:Might sound a bit stupid that question, but: do Loroi eat meat other than those piccled squid things?

Taben has a variety of marine food animals that would be analogous to fish and shellfish, and Perrein has a wide variety of wildlife in general (though much of it is poisonous and requires some processing to eat).

Since the most common animal that goes into a loroi's belly is PIG, do they have an equivalent to barbecue?
Also, what games are popular other than Crossfire? Any card games or similar?

Any stone-age culture that learns to cook using fire has barbecue. So yes.Carl Miller wrote:Since the most common animal that goes into a loroi's belly is PIG, do they have an equivalent to barbecue?
Telepathic and telekinetic cheating are a significant problem for Loroi game design. Any game in which the player must conceal the identity of pieces from each the other player (as in most card games and some board games like Scrabble) is problematic. In any game, the one player must conceal her own strategy telepathically from the other, and that's considered part of the game, but it's difficult to conceal, say, a hand of cards from everyone in the room, and if even one person can see it, then effectively everyone can know it, instantly and silently. So most games must involve pieces that remain in plain sight. Further, in strategy games like Crossfire, there is usually a rule that no one can approach within a certain distance (say, 10 paces) of either player, so that they can't trying to get telepathic cues off of one or the other, and each player only needs to worry about guarding her thoughts against her opponent.Carl Miller wrote:Also, what games are popular other than Crossfire? Another problem is telekinesis. While not every Loroi is telekinetic, it's common enough to be a game killer. So any game mechanism that can be altered through telekinesis (such as dice-rolling) is out. Even chess-like boardgames usually have boards with peg-holes that the pieces can fit securely into, so as to discourage telekinetic shuffling of the pieces.
So Loroi "table games" are mostly limited to strategy games like chess or checkers, and without cards or dice, it's easy to see why the Loroi penchant for gambling hasn't developed to the degree it has in most Human cultures. More casual Loroi games are telepathic "conversation" games, in the vein of I Spy or Similes or Twenty Questions or The Dozens.

How much could the Loroi pick up from studying the remain''s of Captain Jardin's shipmates?
Besides any decomposition of any bacteria in their bodies, there the explotion from the ship and the shrapnel that had to produce. Beyond that, you have extreams of heat (the direction pointed at the sun) and cold (the direction pointed away from the sun) that would freeze and scorch a body at the same time; radiation; the vacuum of space tearing the juicy bits apart; and any small space debris going at high speeds that would rip the bodies a new one (all some the very real reasons astronauts have short stays outside of the ship, and small meteors and space junk is why modern space shuttles have to replace their windshields every few missions.

The Bellarmine's wreck was located at the outer edge of the system of a dim M-class protostar where it's very cold. The combination of deep cold and vacuum would preserve the bodies very well. Most of the bodies were recovered from inside the forward hull section; depressurized, but protected from space debris and direct radiation. And the bodies were recovered only a few days after death. Some would be mangled from the ship damage, but they have 57 examples to choose from.
Combined with the records of the examination and treatment of the live specimen, I'd say they could learn a great deal about Human biology, given time to study the available data. Though at this moment, no Loroi outside the Tempest have any access to this data.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Are all the collected specimens an artifacts of Bellarmine's wreck onboard the Highland shuttle?
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I wonder what the most confusing item they found from Bellarmine the is to the loroi.

hmm reading your opponent mind would make planning too ahead of time quite useless no? Since you know how they are going to play, you can adapte

No, just some of them.GeoModder wrote:Are all the collected specimens an artifacts of Bellarmine's wreck onboard the Highland shuttle?
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
If they found THAT, then the very next thing the Loroi would do is push the Bellarmine into the Sun, together with Jardin and everything ever touched by a human.Karst45 wrote:maybe this?wasp609 wrote:I wonder what the most confusing item they found from Bellarmine the is to the loroi.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Imagine if the found a rubiks cube some loroir would be having a fit.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Do civilian loroi have any names other than their given one? Or if everyone's favorite telekinetic death machine got discharged tomorrow, would she just be called Leinnol?
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
A few questions about Unsheathed abilities:
1) How many PK powers can a typical Unsheathed use at once? For example, can they keep up both physical and EM shields while still pumping out TK attacks? Does using multiple powers at once weaken the effect of the individual powers?
2) How much concentration does it take to use the shields? Is it just "you have to be conscious and decide to do it" or does it take so much concentration that the performance of other activities is either impaired or outright impossible?
3) Are the shields selective, or ineffective against low energy effects? For example, does an EM shield block radio, or even light? Does a physical shield stop -everything- including molecular motion it the surrounding atmosphere? Does a shield move with the Unsheathed who made it, and if so, how does it deal with immobile physical barriers it comes in contact with, such as trees?

Civilians use guild and job titles as part of their names in the same way that warriors do.Carl Miller wrote:Do civilian loroi have any names other than their given one? Or if everyone's favorite telekinetic death machine got discharged tomorrow, would she just be called Leinnol?
Psychokinesis use is limited by power (which determines the total amount of force that can be applied at any moment) and skill (which determines how finely the application of that force can be controlled). A PK who can exert 10 pounds for force can lift one 10 pound object, or two 5 pound objects, etc. Trying to control multiple applications of force at once will present an increasing challenge to skill as the number of objects increases, similar to physically juggling objects.JQBogus wrote:1) How many PK powers can a typical Unsheathed use at once? A very skilled user may be able to maintain the shield mostly without active concentration (as an experienced driver operates almost unconsciously), but a less skilled user will have to allocate more of her attention to it.JQBogus wrote:2) How much concentration does it take to use the shields? A PK shield represents an application of force; it will not "block" or "stop" an attack unless that force is sufficient to completely nullify the kinetic energy of the attack; otherwise it reduces (or perhaps deflects) that kinetic energy. It will affect any mass within the area of effect, including atmosphere. The area of effect is wherever the user chooses; usually this moves with the user. If the shield comes into contact with an object such as a tree, it will apply its force to that object; if that force is not sufficient to move that object, then nothing happens. There is no counter-force on the user; in order to work, Newton's Third Law cannot apply to telekinesis.JQBogus wrote:3) Are the shields selective, or ineffective against low energy effects? EM shields work the same way, except regarding electromagnetism instead of matter.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I amazes me just how deep and rich the background of the loroi is.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
It amazes me that the Loroi have not conquered the galaxy and 2-3 others by now. The advantage set they have makes them into veritable invincible Gods.
