Macron Accelerator "beamers" on Terran ships.

Post by MBehave »

Based on
https://toughsf.blogspot.com/2019/11/hy ... .html#more
Made a new thread instead of starting it inside Terran Q&A because a previous discussion like this was separated into its own thread.

Macron accelerator as a Mjolnir cannon.
110m blowgun array gives 1414km/s projectile stream.(spinal mount)
Deterum pellets return as much as 66,000X the energy "put in" as fusion on impact/compression, shields cant stop the projectiles as they are physical mass and armour would not stand a chance no matter what its made of.

Using the same energy per second as a single Terran heavy rail gun gives ~7.58 damage per second(outsider damage numbers based on kinetic energy of a 200kg railgun at 400km/s once every 60 seconds) continuous stream of death, thats 455 damage per min in outsider numbers using the same energy from a railgun that does 53 per min(one shot).
"Beam" does not scatter like charged particle or plasma beams, and photons, so damage is not reduced by range.
As a spinal mount that sucks up most of the energy Terran battleship can produce lets make its power draw equal to 6 Heavy Rail guns.(6 heavy railguns are removed from the battlecrusier vs heavy cruiser).
Thats 2730 damage every 60 seconds or 45.5 damage per second that ignores shields.

Only downside is Its still super slow compared to particle/plasma/laser weapons but its outright devastating if it hits and it has a far higher effective range then rail guns both due to its speed and continuous beam nature that simply needs to cross a targets path rather then point intercept. Ignoring stream nature its around 14000km effective range(based on Outsider effective range for 400km/s projectile), if you decide to make it equal to 50 shots(~ same damage as railgun) every 60 seconds needing 1.2 second hit it has better then 50000km effective range. Against the largest Umiak super dreadnaughts 2.2km in size it has an effective range of over 300000km.(~1 railgun worth of energy hit every 60 seconds)

Did I mention the projectiles are effectively impossible to detect?
Stealth is effectively impossible in space, plasma and particle beams do not have unlimited range, Yet the macrons have almost no mass, they are not hot, they are not dense and they are so small radar/lidar wont work except for extreme close ranges when its already to late. A single ship jumping into an enemy system in a few minutes could complete a fire mission that would wipe out all major space infrastructure(that cannot dodge) across the system and do so with an undetectable attack until closest targets are hit, and it would be far more efficient then using missiles/railguns.

Conclusion :P
Macron Accelerators shooting fusion/fissionable material are pretty damn neat and realistic.

If this was it, from the loroi point of view this is primitive technology. However since their own "superweapon" the wave loom are so rarely used ripping one out from a ship and drop in an high tech level upgraded version of a mjolnir could be an interesting experiment. Pop into a system, take some shots at enemy installations and leave. Early warning systems ses a scoutship if they cannot detect the beem and may as such ignore it. Compare this to the first A-bomb attack where the bomber was essentially ignored by the Japanese air defence (what little was left of it) since it looked like just another harmless scout.

Loroi ships could easily fill up their middle section(assuming no operational problems caused to the ship)
Bigger Loroi ships are 500-800m
Their is a problem with Macrons however...
Macron Blowgun Length/Stream speed/effective range(53 damage every 60 seconds against Loroi ships attempting to dodge while coming straight on)
110m ~1414km/s ~50000km
220m ~2000km/s ~65000km
330m ~2450km/s ~80100km
440m ~2820km/s ~90200km
550m ~3160km/s ~103000km
660m ~3460km/s ~115000km

Double the range uses 5x the energy for the same basic damage because more and more energy is going to accelerating rather then throwing more matter...

Pulse weapons are better at medium/long ranges then Macrons.
However older Loroi ships would be an upgrade avenue...
Halberd Mk.17
"Unable to upgrade to modern heavy weaponry such as the pulse cannon due to power limitations, the Halberd has remained in service due to its survivability and comparatively high speed, and is sometimes used as a fleet torpedo platform."

This is where Macrons due to low peak power draw could be useful.
Using the power from the 16 heavy blasters on the Halbred(point blank damage=energy) at 115000km would do 29 damage vs 24 for the heavy blasters at the same range with the damage difference improving as range closes.
All Loroi ships running medium/light blasters would see a increase in range and actually hit far harder up close, able hit harder them Umiak ships of the same size at Umiaks preferred ranges. Except for the ammo blowpipe Macrons are simple, assuming the Loroi can make the ammo upgrading ships that can't handle pulse weapons actually makes sense.
