For most of the pregnancy, the fetus is not well-developed enough to have any kind of telepathically recognizable mind. In the last trimester the unborn baby's mind is still not sophisticated enough to communicate in formal messages, but the semi-conscious subtext is there, and this is can be an important element in the early development of the brain, as with an unborn human baby hearing the sound of its mother's voice. But as NOMAD mentions, the constant telepathic feedback from the developing baby can be very distracting and distressing to the mother.

Loroi mothers who choose to carry the pregancy full term tend to be the sort of individuals who are likely to form a close bond with their children, but (as has been remarked upon) many Loroi warriors are harsh individuals who do not make for empathic mothers. Some may mentally wall themselves off from the unborn child, and others may become actively resentful of the baby if forced by circumstances to carry it to full term. Hence the practice of rearing children communally by qualified specialists, and beginning that communal element as early as biology allows.

Loroi children denied adequate telepathic contact during development face essentially the same challenges as neglected or abused human children do: reduced developmental potential and greater risk of emotional and societal problems.
