Constellations on page 49

Post by StellaFrost »

What do the constellations on page 49 depict? A view from a particular Loroi home world or something else?

I ask this because the star patterns have a striking similarity to Terran constellations. Namely:

Auriga & Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Virgo

Arioch has let it known that they are 'placeholders' iirc.

It would be cool do if they are mythical constellations from some "ancestral world". However that would not work on the ground stars move around and by the time the loroi where created the view from Earth would be very different from today an even when the constellations where designed from local Earth myth. Besides stars that belong to different constellations could just as well both be part of the same constellation based on some other myth if they appear close enough to each other.

That they might be placeholders was my first thought, but the constellations aren't exact.

With some of the stars, there is a huge difference in their location relative to their position today, while others haven't moved much at all relative to their neighbors. It looks like they might be the constellations we see on Earth, but from a long time ago. It seems odd that Arioch would change up the stars if they were just going to be placeholders.

Well, he has stated more than once that they are, in fact, placeholders, and he's been too busy/lazy/forgetful to update the panels in question. It's a bit down in the minutiae now that we have months to years between actual new content. I'd rather he focus his energies on that than revising something irrelevant.

Considering that they are in the room with the Tempest mosaic there is a distinct possibility that the ancient loroi, just like us, made constellations of their mythical heroes. as such there may be a "Tempest" constellation. Want a bit of fun? I would be awesome it our sun was part of one of those constellations, especially if it is part of the Tempest constellation.

It would be, but we now know it's not on any of their charts and is likely not visible to them. Too bad.
