Mickey mouse?
I don't understand. What's he referencing? (I know who Mickey Mouse is, I just... is there a tune that goes with that or something?)

Ah. Black and white... that was before my time.

I'm not from the States, so it didn't mean anything to me either.

Full Metal Jacket is what I'd immediately thought of too.
Seems like Alex is pulling a Tom Paris being into really old american pop culture. Considering Ellen, I wouldn't be surprised if they were the contemporary equivalents to retro-styled hipsters today.

Hipster Ellen: "I know! Here! Listen to this music! It's by a band nobody's heard of!"
Hipster Alex: "Oh sweet! What's it called?"
Hipster Ellen: "Ugh, nevermind!"
Hipster Alex: "Wait... what?"
Hipster Ellen: "If you like it, then it's popular, that means they've posthumously sold out and like, aren't underground or retro anymore."
Hipster Alex: "Oh. Oh yeah. I hate those sellouts, whatever they're called."
Hipster Ellen: "Yeah, me too. They're sooooo mainstream."
Hipster Alex: "Let's go drink at an obscure coffee shop and talk about thrift stores!"
Hipster Ellen: "Let's!"
Loroi: "What... what the hell was that?"
Kikitik: "KIKIKIKIKIKITKIKTIKITITIKIKITIKITITIKITIKITITITITITIKITITIKITITIKITIKITITIKITITIKITITITIKITIKIKITIKITIKITIKIKI!"
Loroi: "I wholeheartedly agree, but only after we've disemboweled their firstborn sons and eviscerated their firstborn daughters in front of their parents eyes. With a wooden spoon."
Kikitik: "KIKITIKITIKIKITITITIKITITIKITIKIKI?"
Loroi: "No. The Chocolate and Iceream pillaging is ours by right. Do you want to fight another war over this? Fah. Let's just annihilate their species already."
Kikitik: "KITIK!"

Thanks, I forget if you've put it up where Alex is from.
Portland is just a bit more hipster than Seattle.

Only hipsters think that being into something when it wasn't cool is cool.

Alex is from a rural community in Redding, in the north of California.
So, which is more hipster: Eugene or Portland?

Re: Mickey mouse?
Portland, you sort of need more urban mass to generate the necessary thrift store fodder to support a decent hipster population. Although, I've not been around Eugene much, Portland is VERY hipster-ific. Hmm, is Alex's family French Canadian? It would sort of explain his name. My family used to live right on the border with Ontario, Windsor's a nice town. Anyhow my step mom's family is French Canadian.

Re: Mickey mouse?
But now that hipsters are "cool" shouldn't they all be moving onto another demographic?
