Risky, quite unlike my own nature that move I'm guessing; altho I am known to myself to occasionally step off this norm due to either boredom, enthusiasm or impulse. I know this has more to do with Arioch's stylistic sensibilities than logic, but why is the back of Fireblade's helmet open? Wouldn't having her hair stick out like that require an open helmet, and therefor create a massive hole in her armour? Why bother to wear a helmet at all if it doesn't have a back/top?

The helmets apparently have a sliding cover that cuts of the hair in time of emergency. Loroi cultural thing, with them never getting standard military culture like we did.

So I assume thats Fireblade saying hello back?

Wait ... we know that what he's doing is stupid, but how much has he actually learned about the Loroi? Very little, is my read, which means ... he doesn't have much of a clue about things, and so he's reverting to his wiseass ways in an attempt to get a reaction.
This is going to end ... less than optimally.

If Fireblade didn't understand a word of trade, and at least one of the Loroi in the room did understand, she'd probably pick it up just as fast...

While Alex may not know much about Loroi culture, he is fully aware of Fireblade's telekinetic abilities (getting slammed into a wall for accidentally tripping and falling in someone's general direction is usually a pretty clear sign that you do not try to piss off the red-haired warrior). Either Reed convinces Fireblade to hold off for awhile because this alien's kinda important or the next page shows a smear of blood and viscera that used to be Ensign Jardin.

This is going to be fun to watch.

Fireblade cant kill Alex. She would be in deep trouble if she did. He knows this.

...however, smashing him against the wall and telling him very pointedly to shut his mouth might be allowed. Besides, folks who are quick to anger don't always stop and think, "Wait, he's being a jerk but should I really punch him?" Chances are Fireblade's going to tolerate (barely) Alex' jibes until he accidentally hits upon something important to her (say, her dead family) and she lashes out.

Although I hope that won't happen because that would mean no more protagonist.
