This is a character from Jen "Tochi" Wang's webcomic Strings of Fate. This is really just a reinterpretation of a piece Tochi did. Several people have pointed out how much she came out looking like an Ah! My Goddess! character; it's funny that it didn't occur to me while I was doing it.

One of the highlights of Bandai's stylish Cowboy Bebop is, of course, bad-girl sexpot Faye Valentine. The background was originally done in Painter (she's supposed to be reclining on the couch in the Bebop's main lounge), but it looked terrible and I was out of time, so I blurred the heck out of it and covered it up with lots of pretentious text.

Started as a homage to the music of Pat Benatar, this came out a sort of tribute to 80's style in general. The figure is inspired by an old black and white Tropico poster that hangs in my studio, with a touch of Patrick Nagel tossed in for good measure.

2000's Christmas card. The goal here was something inspired by Art Nouveau poster boy Alphonse Mucha. Personally, I'm proud of the hands (which I had to redraw about seven times).

A fanart for the computer game American McGee's Alice. A somewhat different take on Lewis Carroll's famous writings, American's version has an older, knife-wielding, gothic Alice returning to a decaying and sinister Wonderland to mete out her final vengeance against the Red Queen. This piece was actually used in a Gamestop/Funcoland ad in the November 2000 issue of PCGamer, without my permission.

This is my take on a design of a "Sith Witch" in the Art of Star Wars Episode I book by Iain McCaig. It was interesting to learn that lightsabers are actually white, with a colored glow.

A recolor of an older Motoko Kusanagi pic I did in June of 1998. Although this is the version of Motoko from the manga, I tried to give her the impression of the more contemplative movie version.

This is my CD cover design for The huh? Album, an independent rap & hip-hop compilation from local Santa Cruz label Bottom of the Ninth Entertainment. The instruction was for the character to look "confused," but she mainly just looks pouty. The belt-line of her jeans also looks a bit odd, because of a late request by the client to button her jeans (click here to see the early version, in all its unbuttoned glory). The background sucks, however.

Those of us who've read DC's Sandman and Books of Magic know that Death is a punky British girl. This was a Christmas gift for my pal Barbana, Empress of the Cosmos, who has the original.
