Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Having a bridge on a starship where you can actually see outside is foolish. A properly placed bridge would be deeper in the vessel (and sticking it on the front on something like a battleship or cruisers seems just as foolish too). The flag bridge would be in a different place in the ship as would ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I'm not sure if this has been answered before, but since they seem to be artificial intelligences, can the Loroi Farseers detect the Historians with their powers? The Historian personality constructs cannot be detected or interacted with by Loroi telepathy. HHm.. How did that first contact go? I ta...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
How can a rocket engine (basically what they all use, some sort of rocket to propel the ships forward) be stealthed?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Also, a lot of mythical figures are jerkasses. By modern standards at least, Perseus was quite the arsehole, at least in some versions of the myth. Take his slaying of Medusa, who in the Roman verion was originally a very beautiful woman... and then Poseidon raped her in Athena's temple. Athena was...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
However, what would the Loroi most likely think of that old fairy tale, do they have similar stories and what are they like? Sure, the Loroi have legendary stories that have a similar character to Greek or Norse myths, and many of them feature mermaid-like entities. The Loroi sea-spirits have a lot...

Re: Zumwalt: Stealth and Armor in Modern Naval Combat
Since the conversation has nukes, assuming some armor is added (I agree, some of is better than none, otherwise the ships aren't much better than armed merchant vessels) what would it take to put reasonable radiation shielding in areas of the ships? Is it feasible?

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Hhhm.. That sounds like if the Umiak actually stripped half of their systems of the warships, they'd be able to literally throw an overwhelming number of fleets and ships into the assault, but even if they succeeded, the cost could literally cripple them for a time. Even if they won, it might very w...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
I'm sure the Umiak know where their ships/fleets are. As much as they are into disinformation and using disguised insurgents/spies, they would likely be looking for use of the same against the Loroi. They'd be suspicious about strange Umiak ships in areas they aren't supposed to be. Especially small...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
Have to disagree if only because of the economic and social benefits to the corrupt plutocrats that securing Gazproms continued hegemony over Eastern Europe guarantees. Ukraine and Georgia both involved themselves in attempts to route in oil and gas from outside Russia, both get the hammer as they ...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Well, Terran technology won't be a deciding factor, but Terran space opens up a whole new front deep behind current battle lines. It's likely Humanity's astrological position in the galaxy is what we have to offer. Especially with a tech base that is capable of being upgraded so it can support Loroi...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
As far as I know, there are no insurgencies anymore and the Loroi and Umiak deal with them the same way now: with nuclear warheads. The front lines have been static for years, with a whole bunch of nuclear blasted systems between the Umiak and Loroi that are fought over. One of the biggest problems ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I been trying to imagine the larger battles and was wondering, when the fleets do meet, is the antimissile/fighter defense of the heavies and superheavies something like what you see in this vid? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwkYaxkDO3c&list=FLxDZh1guH_L76x8-8qALLOw The close in point defenses t...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
One of the central problems that will likely come up in the comic is that the Loroi have partially built their empire on the idea that they are favored children of the Soia, and one of the ways they promote that is the idea that THEY were created out of whole cloth (and thus possibly in the Soia's ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
You touch on an interesting subject. I think a large part of some of the Loroi's disltrust of Alex is his resemblance to Loroi. Many will automatically measure him up to what they consider proper Loroi behavior. Male Loroi behavior... and he's going to fall very short of that. One of the other big p...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Parallax observation from different vantage points? I hadn't thought of that. It might even give you the range fast than RADAR, since RADAR has to travel all the way back... Good ingenuity. Reduced radar signatures are always a good thing when you're being actively targeted. I don't think parallax ...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
A starship can carry a lot of chaff. As far as cloaking devices, Arioch has said no such thing exists in the universe. Certainly not for the current combatants. The Historians -might- have something like that, but they aren't sharing with anyone so it effectively is beyond the Loroi and the Umiak's ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I'm not sure where this one would go, but what base for math do the other races use? humans use a base 10 math system, I believe the Loroi use a base 8 (is that right?) What do the other races use? The Barsam, the Neridi, Delrias, the Historians, Pipolsid and the rest, and the same with the Umiak cl...
