Re: Page: 119
Well would he be given the forces to make this kind of large scale offensive based on his experience? I take it the little bugger is well known in his own circles or at least to military command he has 2 noted successes of returning successfully. Could he have been speaking of his own upcoming offe...

Re: P A G E 1 1 3
Spiral could also just be that blunt spoken too. Loroi telepathy, from what I remember, tends to be direct and blunt in meaning. She is very likely to be just as direct with the spoken language. Thankfully she seems more like a mischievous/fun personality rather than mean.

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror (Completed)
World building is an interesting mental exercise but I agree that the most difficult part is putting things down on paper. The advise I can give you is how I managed to get somewhat disciplined in my writing, if your imagination is working overtime and you have ideas and the problem in putting them...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror (Completed)
OOhhh.. Thanks dragoongfa. That was a good explanation of things. I love details. :D I asked about the world building because I am in the process of writing my own fanfic of my own (based in a different version of World of Warcraft), that has a good amount of worldbuilding to put into it, and I got ...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror (Completed)
Ok. I read the last parts of the story, and I can say; Damned good job dragoongfa! I greatly enjoyed it and have a lot of curiosity about the ending. You put in a lot of tantalizing information on the actions of the Loroi Union and the humans, but left out mention of most of the other aliens of the ...

zak: not saying older people can't be competent and skilled, was not even talking about age we are talking about experience, and how the people in power quite often disregard the experience of the ones on the front lines(this is often older people in chair jobs and younger on the front lines when i...

Re: Page 111 discussion
fred: that 'more experience' thing has always confused me, i know that's what happens but it's such a load of bullshit, seniority? sure, but age does not make someone wise nor skilled, those come from experience and learning the right lessons from it, and at this time there is not a single human th...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror
You are confusing the army discipline and subordination, and the lack of initiative among subordinates. It is known that the Arab modernity turns out badly with the construction of armies. However, Yemeni Huthis quite successful fight against the League of Arab States, despite the fact that the Ara...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror
A command culture that is too 'top down' is likely to really reduce or eliminate an army's ability to exploit transient opportunities. Also, as Absalom was intimating, a military culture that has too much permission seeking is pretty vulnerable to disruptions of its command structure. Can't ask per...

Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre
I do not know if this has been asked yet, but it says in the Umiak section of the Insider, that the crews of the Umiak ships often have members of the construction teams (workers and engineers) as a part of the ship crew. Since this means that many trained shipyard crews leave their posts to continu...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror
Yes. I believe it has been confirmed by Arioch, that humans are invisible to telepathy and being sensed via any form of telepathy. So when a human it out of sight, the Loroi cannot sense him/her. However telekinesis isn't telepathy, it affects a physical object, such as flesh. So in that case, the h...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror
I would guess the Humans accidentally cut off the Umiak soldiers from attacking the Loroi. another possibility is that the humans were closer to he device and moving towards it, and were clearly not affected by it, hence they would be seen as the more dangerous foe since the Loroi are definitely ne...

Re: Evacuate Earth
I was referring to the possibility of Earth being in the sun's shadow. The nova's going to be from hydrogen piling up on the neutron star from its collision with the sun. The sun would be massively disrupted, but better off being exposed to that than being in direct line of sight of what's going on...

Re: Evacuate Earth
How would Earth be shielded? It would be screwed even if it was just a nova. The atmosphere would be gone, the planetary crust shattered and magma coming out in countless places. The radiation burst would have fried, killed any lifeforms and the heat boiled away any water with the atmosphere. I can...

Re: Evacuate Earth
How is the radiation and heat supposed to go around the shielding pusher plate in space? By being emitted from matter that has gone around the pusher plate. If the event is large enough to produce a usable impulse on a pusher plate, it will engulf the vehicle. It'd be like relying on waterproof boo...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I don't recall saying this, exactly. I think what I said was (in a discussion about a hypothetical war between Loroi and Humanity) that the Loroi don't really have the resources to spare to invade, occupy, and hold human territory. That doesn't rule out annihilation, which would be much easier. In ...

Re: Evacuate Earth
Well, depending on the cause of the disaster, you could potentially use the disaster to your benefit. A nova could provide a lot of delta V if you had an appropriately shaped pusher plate. :) That is good lateral thinking. I approve. That said, such a pusher plate might be more expensive than launc...
