Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

While I don't condone the killing of catgirls, I don't really think of Outsider as fantasy. Space opera, yes. Okay, I lied. I do condone the killing of catgirls. I think the concept of post-war Terran ship designs is an interesting one. I do have some back-burner notes on a possible sequel to Outsid...

Re: page 82

How exactly do the Umiak aim those cannon blisters? I assume that what we see is just the end of the barrel poking out of a ball mount. But the way they are oriented makes it looks like all 3 barrels would intersect and not have enough room. Unless they are a lot shorter than I thought. The "barrel...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

and yes several minutes is kind of a lot of time, but for something that must weigh a lot to move out of the way only with maneuvering thrusters is going to be very difficult. In order to make a ballistic projectile miss, you only need to alter your projected position by a single ship length. Even ...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

Orbital stations and bases are still spacecraft; they have thrusters and can avoid incoming projectiles, if given sufficient warning. If you didn't detect the ship that launched it, I think mass driver rounds would be difficult to detect by passive sensors, unless you knew what you were looking for....

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

To start with, the odds that the plane of the planetary orbits happens to concide with the jump vector from the other star are pretty small. Ignoring that, a gas giant would only shield a tiny sliver of a system from the inbound jump event; you might, say, prevent receivers on Earth from detecting a...

Tsunami is indeed a Vanguard-class battlecruiser. The BC design has been updated a bit since the last concept.

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons

The enemy can see this spot too... any weapon that doesn't deal instant damage in a tactical situation like that just invites the enemy to kill you with his conventional rifle while you ask him to politely stay still and wait to catch on fire. Again, I'm talking about small arms. We already have che...

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons

Assuming that the original poster is referring to a man-portable laser weapon, it would have to be of a high enough power to do instant damage, or it would probably not be a viable weapon. Target tracking and attempting to keep a weaker beam trained on a target for long enough to do damage would be ...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I should probably update it, especially if there's no plans to migrate the old posts here. I don't know of any way to migrate old posts to the new forum; they are different systems, and even if there was some way to get a dump of the raw data, I doubt we could get Digital Webbing to provide it (the...

Also: You may embed only 3 quotes within each other. =C It's OK tho, I think... Display of nested quotes seems to work well. It's only missing alternating BG colors for layers of quotation. This only becomes relevant if deep quoting is used tho. The limitation on nested quotes is a configurable par...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense

Any guiding or transmission systems don't work because of heat, until the speed is sloved down. Back in the mid-60's we had guided missiles that could accelerate at 400 g and reach top speeds in excess of Mach 10, and were accurate enough to intercept aerial targets. The total flight time was measu...
