Re: Distraction thread
And space superiority requires high levels of accuracy to hit ground based targets AND needs independent resupply if you intend to try glassing the planet. And the alternative (ground invasion) requires even more precision (so you don't waste your own troops with close in fire support), and even mo...

Re: Page 91
My my. Good Elf and Bad Elf suddenlly seem equally very concerned about getting Jardin out of the room. And Tempo seems particularly concerned about what the people back on the bridge are saying.
Fascinating.
Fascinating.

Re: Stillstorm laughed...
now would it not be interesting if the torpedo was "intercepted" by a closer, undetected Umiak fleet ( coming from the protostar cloud). That...is EXTREMELY unlikely. For one thing, I think the Loroi fleet and the bell wreckage are WELL in excess to a light second out away from the protostar cloud....

Re: Stillstorm laughed...
Stillstorm seems to be saying that this Umiak commander is odd in that in situations where he loses the tactical advantage, he tends to fall back while other Umiak commanders have a tendency to fight rather suicidally to the end.

Re: Stillstorm laughed...
Or maybe it is only a war of extermination from one side's point of view (the xenocidial one). Didn't the Umiak response to Loroi guerilla warfare become bombing them from orbit? Telepathy just gives the Loroi to big of an advantage to try to rule over them as a client race. Not with the numbers th...

Re: Stillstorm laughed...
Kliktiks action make perfect sense actually. Assuming he's tellling the truth, there is no need for him to risk further losses in an unimportant battle. The wreckage of a third party is interesting, but it's hardly worth if for eihter side . By now the Loroi should know that humans are technologicly...

Re: Stillstorm laughed...
The laugh actually shows a lack of tact and gives me a more negative impression on how Loroi compose themselves. I would have preferred a simple "No" and a ceasing of transmission. Her behavior makes the Umiak commander appear more restrained and measured in comparison. Isn't the Loroi lacking tact...

Well it sees that Stillstorm gave exactly zero shits about the Umiak offer.

Re: Page 88
And it still doesn't appear to be what I just said. What I'm saying is that humanity doesn't have any telepathic traits to expand on. They're not resistant to Loroi telepathy, they just almost totally lack any sort of either sending or receiving ability. Now this is just semantics :| I'm not sure w...

Re: Page 88
No, it means they only had the same reasons they had to design the Barsam after the Nibiren, or the Neridi after whatever their prototype was. They were going around making Soia-Liron replicas of other species...started doing so with humans for the same reasons they did it with all the others , exp...

Re: Page 88
well look at eh planets the the Lorio found themselves on, earth-like with similar gravity and varying environments (rain forest, Oceania, and desert, not sure the the last one) it could be a modified case of Galactic Convergent Evolution http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convergent_evolution . Where we...

Re: Page 88
I don't think it's that much of a coincidence. Most other local species appear reasonably readable, enough so that Alex was first thought to be actively blocking, the Soia eventually engineered at least one telepathic species, presumably not reaching such a high level of development by accident, an...

Re: Page 88
Lets look at what we know. 1.Loroi and Humans share uncanny physical similarity 2.Humans display an unusually strong natural resistance to Loroi mind scanning/detection 3.Human hominid ancestors predate the earliest recorded presence of the Loroi 4.There is no evidence of Soia settlement on the plan...

This also means that he is still capable of being mind probed from skin contact just not at a distance. Except Fireblades interrogation didn't work. They didn't get any information (or at least any useful information) out of Alex when they scanned him. So I'm guessing it's a bit more indepth than t...

Re: Page 88
Considering that the Loroi are dubious about how extensive Umiak space is, it's unlikely that Far seeing has infinite range. They could just scope out the domains of inhabited space on the Umiak side of no mans land.

Re: Page 88
I don't think Alex's lotai has anything to do with the Umiak. If the Umiak REALLY had a wide area psychic jammer, it wouldn't just conceal humans and Umiak. It'd conceal those Barsam couriers, and even the Loroi crew from eachother. Such wide arrea effect jamming would be VERY noticeable, and be spr...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Arioch: Did the Loroi ever develop a code akin to the Geneva convention when their society(ies) coalesced into larger nation states or did their warrior code/notions of honor limit the socially permissible/acceptable actions of conduct on the battlefield? They probably had some agreements on prison...

Re: Page 88
The raiding parties are dispatched to strike at fleets observed by farseer. You march a fleet under the cover of this jamming into the steppes. No response, the Loroi didnt see you and you come back. No combat, you tested it against their predictability, and the Loroi don't know a thing about it. T...

Re: Page 88
Ah, a (mechanical?) counter to the Loroi farseeing ability is more or less confirmed. Now I wonder if the Bellarmine kinda "surprised" the Umiak ship carrying the "cloaking device". That would sure be reason enough for the Umiak to take the "Bell" out ASAP. Except they don't need to negotiate with ...

Re: Page 88
Something doesn't add up here. If the Loroi really ARE on the verge of defeat as Klik Klak says...why do the Umiak care about the Bell's wreckage at all? The interest of the enemy forces in the object aside, if the Loroi lines really ARE being penetrated by large scale Umiak battle fleets, what shou...
