Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
:D :D :D :D :D You might spend some time talking with women in the STEM fields and realize that last bit is untrue, except in the sense that many women are not "interested" in STEM careers because of systemic and deep rooted gender biases. And those that do "stick with it" are, again, systematically...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
What's the IQ distribution like for Loroi? Is it the same as in humans, or gender reversed? I suspect that the distribution curves might be taller (more individuals near the mean and fewer at the extremes) for Loroi, chiefly because of their eugenics policies. As for gender distribution, it's diffi...

Re: I think there is more to come
Lest a strawman get constructed here, I point out that the concerns a few of us have with the "romance" angle is in relation to the forum discussions, not the comic. I don't think anyone is saying the comic is moving in an erotic direction. And there is reasonable, good commentary and speculation on...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I think there is more to come, especially based on this: https://well-of-souls.com/outsider/images/display.htm?thekiss04.jpg I think was there was some foreshadowing here. I think Beryl is interested in experiencing human interaction. https://i.imgur.com/iEGPaCp.jpg?fb I think people are conflating...

Re: Page 164: Smells like buttocks!
"Do what I say or I'll destroy your entire planet!" might hold sway with some civilizations. Right, but that's a political and not a military objective. But the power to destroy is not the power to control. Once they call your bluff, you either back down or you have no prize. It obviously didn't wo...

Re: Page 164: Smells like buttocks!
Wouldn't death stars be too static to be a useful weapon in the outsider universe? It's one killshot in the OT was closer range than earth/moon, which is the max range of a loroi ship, and it doesn't fire light-speed projectiles/beams. It would effectively have to bear the hits from a loroi fleet u...

Re: Outsider Tech: Sensors
I was thinking of scenarios where the ship was known to be in the system, nearby. Regardless, I agree. Just laying low would be a good approach. Of course, given the distribution of objects in a system (assuming it's like our own Solar System) you might have quite a bit of distance to travel to get ...

Re: Outsider Tech: Sensors
Do you think that if you rigged a mirrored 'sail' to your ship you could hide behind it? You could reflect all your infrared emissions back away from the presumed enemy sensors. You certainly couldn't hide all your emissions, but maybe a substantial arc of them... I guess the difficulty would be ge...

But, who are the good guys (or gals) and who are the bad guys? I suspect the Umiak are bad guys, but the others? Hmmmmm. If we are just talking about the setting for this comic then both Loroi and Umiak are the bad guys. The Umiak will enslave, a universally bad thing, your entire race and gear it ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
The second salvo also only came when Alex made that comm call to the Lieutenant(?). Could be a coincidence, but to me it all strongly indicates that their assailants desperately wanted to remain hidden from the combatants. I'm not sure that they're mutually exclusive, depending on the attacking shi...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
It doesn't look like Bellarmine was ambushed. She was only fired upon after she tried making contact. Their adversary seemed as surprised as the Bellarmine. Hmm.. You may be right, of course. I always just assumed that it was waiting for them. It seems to fit the story better in my head, and having...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Perhaps this has been asked, but what about the other four ships? Could one of them have stumbled onto the Umiak? Could one of them come in to the southern border of the Loroi and they already know about Earth? At some point they have to make some sort of contact unless the other four are support s...

It's intimate among loroi and telepathically sensitive races because of the intense telepathic connection that forms from immediate touch. Alex is famously invisible to telepathy. This is like people shaking hands with a robot, or a rock. Even if I'm wrong and there isn't Tempo's guidance behind th...

Re 'ghettos': that's a very loaded term. Before you complain "oh, those <insert ethnic group here> all clump together and speak strange languages and eat strange food," just think "what would I do in their place?" ... and I think we can respectfully ask the immigrants in our communities to do as we...

Re: Page 162: Pleased to meet you!
Would Beryl have the strength to make him feel that kind of tingly feeling? (And yes I know how that sounds you damn animals) So basically, that "electric wire" feeling would denote a forceful mind probe, one or two steps above a casual telepathic contact. Beryl is no slouch in the telepathy depart...
