Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre
How old is the current Umiak civilisation? It seems that they were already an industrial species when they finished conquering their co-evolved planetary rivals (roughly 1000-2000 years after the fall of the Soia). Did they then resort to infighting or did they jump into space and become a spacefari...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Is it out of the ordinary that humanity evolved in an area designated "The Great Wasteland" (lower stellar density/higher mean distance between stars)? All the civilisations in Loroi space seem to have evolved in close proximity to one another. How does the cosmological architecture of the Local Bub...

Re: Orgus
What is this "silk road" reference here? Ancient? How ancient? (post-Soia I presume). The map seems to show a connection between Orgus and Terran space. Is that so or is it just a highlight of the route the Orgus took?

Re: Reading Loroi Expressions and Cold reading the Loroi
hi hi I figured that the Loroi performing the mind probe didn't actually care, one way or another, how Alex felt. I don't think they were trying to torture him, but I didn't get the impression that they were very concerned about not causing him distress. I figured they were just putting all their e...

Re: Reading Loroi Expressions and Cold reading the Loroi
They seem similar to humans, so they probably have the same range of body language as humans do (even if most of their communication is mental) . They probably would have a lot harder time bantering, bulling or cowing us into submission because the're not USED to not being able to read their counter...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?
True, but I'm not sure if taking out the labor costs is a good way of looking at things. After all, you need people to work the smelter if you're gonna shape aluminium into a fuel tank ;) . I tend to look at the Umiak as a combination of WWII soviet industrial capacity (though their manufacturing pr...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?
hi hi I'm also now curious to know what the cost of building the space shuttle is, minus labor and bureaucracy, to see how the components costs compare to the fuel costs, but I can't find anything. Off NASA's site : ''The Space Shuttle Endeavour, the orbiter built to replace the Space Shuttle Chall...

That actually makes me wonder: why are they called ''bivouac'' divisions? (sorry if this sounds like a stupid question )

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
This question may have been asked before, but : what is the chief limitation for Terran ships achieving higher acceleration? Is is the drive technology or the inertial dampener technology? Or a combination of both?

Re: The Loroi are Evil!
Considering that our presense is "invisible" to Loroi, it is not far of to think, that we can also express ourself at undetected. I'm afraid I don't understand. Are you suggesting humans have some exotic form of telepathy that the Loroi don't? Or are you suggesting the Loroi may think we do ?Either...

Hmmm..... NASA did some pretty realistic designs for some of their theoretical craft. They were not interstellar ships though. Terraforming technologies (or rather techniques). Most of their worlds were already habitable, so it's plausible they may not have as much experience in this field. Social studies, economic studies (their telepathic society may lack in these sciences compared to the other races). Of course, that's I...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
hi hi No... it doesn't matter what perspective you are looking at it from. Massless particles and waves travel at c regardless of the motion of the source or the inertial frame of reference of the observer. The thing that changes between reference frames is not the speed of light but the passage of...
