hi hi
I wonder if any Loroi have mastered the art of telekinetically knocking themselves out of the way of an attack while making it look like they got hit?

If I remember right, the average Loroi telepathy has about 100 meter range. Not sure how big the ship they're on is, but hopefully Spiral is still in once piece.

Dang, the lighting is just so good. Do you use references for the backgrounds, or maybe a 3d model as a guideline? Either way, really impressive. The dynamic between lines and highlight lines is so seamless.

I'm loving the highlights and shadows going on in the background. Is that some Umiak writing we see near the ceiling in panel 2?
(Also, was that a Tron reference?)

Re: Page 219
hi hi I always did like that scene in Titan AE, where they go on the unsuited space walk, and right before the protagonist is told to "exhale." Nice little detail. And I gather that Umiak physiology is possibly even more delicate than humans'? At least, unmodified. But yeah, explosive decompression ...

Nice to see that they actually do trust Alex. At least, trust him enough to leave their backs to him.

Re: SSD Versus HDD For Computer Storage... Pros and Cons
hi hi In my desktop, I've got some terabyte SSDs for my OS, and programs that get used frequently, or require fast loading times. And I've got a multi terabyte HDD's for storage space. Old games, videos, music, etc. I've been using them for years and haven't noticed any problems. If I was hosting a ...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
hi hi Are they not including "hot Jupiters," in their results? I can think of some other hypotheses that involve planets getting shuffled around at some point. I guess the Earth and Venus are pretty close together in size, though I'm not sure they're that alike in composition. That being said, I sup...

Re: Why FTL Starships Should Never Land On A Planet....
hi hi Being able to FTL onto a planet would make planets extremely defenseless places to live. So that's a little bit dramatic in its own right, at least. ;) Also, I've been playing a bit of Elite: Dangerous lately, and I had no idea that frame shifting within a planet's atmosphere created fallout. ...

Re: Why FTL Starships Should Never Land On A Planet....
hi hi Considering that FTL travel is fictional, an author can make up whatever energy requirements they want. Rather than that, the energy and structural requirements for lifting a ship out of a gravity well makes it a good idea to separate any large space mission into an interstellar craft that doe...

Re: TALON vs. ECHO (Computer Issues)
hi hi I wonder if there is some way to adjust the computer's or the monitor's color settings to help with the washed out look? I often find that new devices have overly light, blue heavy color profiles because that apparently looks good on store displays. But I suppose if it's really washed out, it'...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
hi hi The first ever direct image of an exoplanet is captured by James Webb. Previously, astronomers only had indirect methods, like waiting for a planet to pass in front of a star and measuring the change in brightness. While everyone else might be awed by the very photogenic images of galaxies and...

Re: Page 217: Where is Cloud?
hi hi Cloud was not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed. :( Honestly, looking at it another way, she escaped certain death once or twice already during their shuttle ride. When you were already living past expectations, every moment is a bonus. Still tragic as heck though. Hopefully she'll ...

Re: Loroi Are Theoretically Possible To Create.... Using Real Science!
hi hi This was touched upon in Schlock Mercenary, though it was the opposite that happened: a local bakery chef or telemarketer instantly being rewritten as an elite spec-ops infiltrator. If someone were to redesign the human brain to accept extra inputs, I'm sure that super-science could come up wi...

Re: Page 216: Time to move!
hi hi If some interstellar civilization wanted to conduct experiments on a very short jump, and weren't afraid of wasting a bunch of money, perhaps they could find an extremely close binary star system and jump between the two. Given how many ships the Umiak were thought to lose in a deep jump, they...

Re: Page 216: Time to move!
hi hi I like the whole bit about relative time dilation. Having a real world delay in jumping helps avoid any causality problems that would crop up if FTL jumping was a real thing, but it also helps make hyperspace a weird and unknowable existence from a narrative level. :) Fireblade may not trust A...

Re: Hardest Space Game You Ever Played And Completed
hi hi Although it wasn't an official ending, visiting and returning from all the planets in Kerbal Space Program was probably the hardest. (Especially Eve.) Honorable mentions: • Colony Wars, getting all the way through to the "best," ending was no small feat for me back when I was in primary school...

Re: Homeworld 3 Announced
hi hi ...Deserts of Kharak is OK, but is nothing like the space based HW games. There's also a healthy bit of retcon going on there too. It's worth $5 pickup IMO. I'm playing through Deserts of Kharak now, and so far my impression is that it's a perfectly decent snack. I can just assume that it's a ...

Re: Homeworld 3 Announced
hi hi It looks nice, though what I'm still most interested in is hearing about how the game plays. Those short clips weren't very revealing. After multiple attempts, I still haven't been able to get past the 3rd mission in Homeworld 2. Was Deserts of Kharak better? Guess since it's $5 on gog right n...
