Re: Page 223: Most Fortunate!

Wouldn't Human speech also be a bit different considering this is hundreds of years into the future? I don't think anyone speaks the same way we did in the 19th or 20th century, not just in English but likely every language from Hindi to Arabic to Chinese. Alex might have some sort of accent compar...

It also can't be understated how useful Earth could be as a staging area. The potential resources in the asteroid belt alone make it valuable from an industrial standpoint. As someone who spent time and thought-effort on coming up with ways humanity could be helpful after first reading Outsider, I'...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer

Maybe it's just me being weird, but I'm looking at the girders in the picture and thinking the way they're oriented is to resist a single direction of force ... I would expect structural girders to be triangular in cross-section and laid out as tesselating triangles. Something like this: https://ww...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer

Its interesting to me that the hangar seems fairly not-crazy looking and incorporates things like fairly run of the mill girders. It always annoyed me when basic strong geometric shapes were not used by aliens and they instead went for weird organic shapes that would be either impossible or incredi...

I wonder if a ship can do more damage firing its weapons from the inside?
I wouldn't be surprised if the hangar was armoured on the inside, since the doors are going to be a weak spot.

Cannot afford to be like real life always. For example if the Deathstar ACTUALLY used security cameras I doubt Luke, Han, Chewie and the bots would ever have escaped off it. Darth Vader wanted them to escape, because he'd put a tracking device on the Millenium Falcon in order to find the Rebel base...

I know this may sound like a really strange question... butttttttt.... Why does Fireblade's (pressure suit/environmental suit/armor/vac-suit) not cover her hair? Everyone else is wearing an enclosed helmet, or does she just have plumage attached to the helmet to resemble her hair? Just wondering if...

IRL pilots will use the rudder of an aircraft to yaw back and forth a bit "wagging the tail" when in view of another plane, like waving to each other. This is sometimes done to indicate a problem when a radio is unavailable, or it can just be a friendly acknowledgement. "They're waggleling!" -- Bat...

Re: How humanity can affect the war, by turning the moon into a deathstar.

Going back to the original point of the thread... Even if humanity could turn the Moon into a deathstar, that wouldn't affect the war. It could only defend Earth. It can't invade the Umiak, and it can't defend the Loroi. The only way it could affect the war is by being such a drain on resources that...

We've been all up and down this tree before. https://well-of-souls.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2409&p=34761#p34761 Also, the "Humans proposed this in the 1960's at TL6, but it never occurred to the aliens before and they're at TL11" is perhaps one of the dumbest tropes in science fiction. Fun, t...

i dont know why but my first thought was "poor korin, that kitty did no harm"... I think this is ether a premonition, or memories of one of the lorai. The ruins to the left remind me of our human ferroconcrete skyscrapers. Loroi architecture we have seen so far looks round and organic. I am leaning...

You are moving the goalpost a bit there. Those are hardly the kind of mechs that the thread title or Discord is referring to unless you wish to take the borderline facetious stance that non combat worthy prototypes somehow count. One of the links is broken at the time that I write this reply, and t...

By that you imply that only Europeans and Americans have the moral standards that enable "human-like intellect". EW! :( I so hope that was a joke. Not wanting to discuss this any further, just in case it was not :( Firstly, I don't imply, I'm explicit. European and american moral standards ...

Yeah some things once set, aren't going away easily even if the reason that they were originally selected for is no longer relevant. Hell, humans still have an appendix, despite the frequent problems that those can have. Apparently the appendix is important as part of our immune system, and as a re...

Re: 174-175: Got milk?

By the way, what about squids and octopuses? More manipulators than humans with very fine control. Or the small rodents (like rats and mice) or squirrels? They look so cute when they handle seeds and nuts with their little hands... Well, like I said, cephalopods would be good candidates were it not...
