Point being that Russia's conventional military power would be useless against a nuclear weapon.

Re: Physiological/psychological effects on Ship Design.

These kinds of discussions happen, and have happened since before I got here. Just because someone lacks a diploma does not mean that they lack relevant knowledge in the field. It helps, obviously, but to dismiss someone's point of view simply because they lack a degree in the area of discussion is ...

If you have a question, ask! People will be more than happy to jump in with their opinion. Just be sure to read the Insider first, since a lot of the details on the setting can be found there.

Re: Physiological/psychological effects on Ship Design.

Hood was a battlecruiser, not designed to go toe-to-toe with enemy battleships. She was a glass cannon, built with heavy guns but without the armor necessary to take the kind of punishment a similarly armed enemy could inflict. Whatever their displacement, the design doctrine of the two ships was v...

Re: two questions about the Loroi Military

According to Fireblade's character sheet, the Loroi use both laser and "blaster" small arms.

Re: Armor values

That's what I had understood from my readings. However, I'm no naval historian, and I wasn't sure if the navy had used other methods to increase the effective strength of the armor beyond the actual thickness of the steel.

Re: Armor values

Also armor numbers dont make sense.. at all. Terran ship weapons are more powerful then Loroi/Umiak weapons in general.. yet our armor is utter crap. [...] Real world Navy as an example... increasing armor on ships was found to be ineffective during ww2. Most anti ship missiles today couldnt penetr...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I think Tempo's expression might have more behind it than the incoming Umiak alone. I think it's safe to say that Tempo's reaction is to the unusual presence of the superheavy in the Umiak fleet. While others on the bridge might have similar reactions, as an intel officer, she knows just how rare i...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Remember that the Umiak silhouettes shown in Insider are rough estimations of general class types--not hard and fast classifications. Umiak ships vary significantly depending on where/when they were built; there is apparently very little effort towards standardization, and even then only across broa...

Re: Page 85

According to Insider, it took four years for Loroi scientists to back-engineer the pulse-cannon from Historian technology. They already knew the basic principles of its creation, and it's just a weapon--nothing so drastic as a complete revolution in ship-design and manufacture. In-universe , I think...

Pff, you forgot that humanity has bald spess muhreens! Those sonsabitches can win any war! They'll daringly raid the Umiak homeworld in a 50 year old corvette, infiltrate their hive and kill their conspicuously exposed Queen. Then they'll walk away in slow motion as a reactor explodes. Damn right. ...
