No, seriously, listen to this. Imagine a sphere with a surface area of six thousand square meters. On this sphere, one thousand computers of negligible size are evenly spread out across the surface. Each computer has one "pointer". This "pointer" can delineate any circular 5 square meter area of the...

Re: Fiction
But you wouldn't be using traction anymore, you'd be breaking loose chunks of ground and kicking them behind you as reaction mass in a foot-based rocket. I had a similar idea, but the comparison with a rocket never struck me, I'm now wondering weather the same effect could be used to run on air? (I...

Re: Fiction
but I'm having a hard time imagining a scenario in which a supersonic humanoid is a significant advantage that would justify the rather severe cost of development. Oh don't take anything I post here seriously, I just like to talk about hypotheticals. In this case I was imagining how the flash might...

Assuming you can give an object with the same shape and mechanics of the human body any value of strength, durability, and weight, Is it possible for said frame to break the sound barrier while running on earth. If so, what might that look like. I assume its possible considering we have no limitatio...

Hey guys, I'm wondering if I even need to go to college. You see, I was poking around the internet when I came up on this http://herkimer.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2014-2015/College-Catalog/Policies-Procedures-Services/Admissions/American-College-TestingProficiency-Examination-Program-ACTPEP and this ht...

Re: Emerging Tech
It would allow one to stream large amounts of data to any device with a camera and the right software. Wile I wouldn't suggest this would replace wifi in the home, it could be used in the consumer industry as more and more tech become wearable. Imagine buying large data packets for whatever it is st...

Re: How would introduction to advanced technology hurt a cul
To dragoonfa. Couldn't the artifacts you consider to be "absolutes" also be replacements for physical phenomena? I am arguing that studying a piece of ceramic that resonates with thought speak would be no more "absolute" than studying why things fall down. Both of these examples would be mysterious ...

Re: How would introduction to advanced technology hurt a cul
But Arioch said "The Loroi will be impressed with the rate of human progress more so because of the fact that we did it without any Soia examples to follow, but I think they probably don't realize that relying on ancient tech may be more of a retarding influence in the long run than a help." But I m...

How would introduction to advanced technology hurt a culture
While reading through the history and forums on the site, I get the impression that everyone agrees the introduction of Soria technology had a retarding effect on the Loroi's rate of technological advancement. Why is this? I understand we have examples of primitive cultures on earth degrading after ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
How similar would Loroi and Human behavior be if Loroi didn't have telepathy.
How similar is human society to non telepathic members of the loroi union.

Re: The importance of skill in ever more advanced wars.
Partially right, modern military armor is designed to stop shrapnel and then bullets. Most injuries modern soldiers suffer are through explosions, not bullets. Modern Type III and IV armor plates can stop assaults rifle bullets but they are heavy on themselves and are only used by assault troops. T...

Re: The importance of skill in ever more advanced wars.
The latter. Well let me start by saying that I don't see a need for any colony to have a ground army at this stage, most are dependent on earth for their survival and they are a unified entity, as far as I know. Having ground soldiers acting as anything other than a police force would be weird. But...

Re: The importance of skill in ever more advanced wars.
Loroi are physically as muscular as our women can be. As such the weight of the equipment they can carry is limited by that but their telepathic abilities allow them to carry less stuff than any other soldier around. They have no need for radios, they have no need for IFF equipment and they have no...

Re: The importance of skill in ever more advanced wars.
2 With exosuits that increase their strength each soldier could carry several unmanned vehicles. 3. Each soldier would be fully integrated in a communications net. While soldiers might not transmit much, as maybe smart weapons could more easily find them and destroy them if they did, they would sti...

Re: The importance of skill in ever more advanced wars.
With that covered , I would like to propose an idea: There are numerous countries in the human space. What if we create an army (no spaceships allowed) to which one of them ? * Also, no Earth country allowed. They have to be set on Mars, Alpha, Proxima, Aldea or Esperanza. What do you guys think ? ...

Re: The importance of skill in ever more advanced wars.
Armored infantry armed with the high-tech equivalent of assault rifles. That's sort of what I wanted to dig into. What are "high tech" assault rifles( I keep coming back to self firing guns, but you guys might have different ideas). What else would a Loroi have on them? Why don't they have exosuits...

This topic is about the possible mechanics of ground warfare for an alien race at about the technological level of...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Those manufactured sugars and proteins can be ingested just as easily by a normal organism as by a cyborg. I'm not sure what you base your 4/5 cost reduction estimation on; combat cyborgs are very expensive to produce and much more expensive to maintain than ordinary biological Umiak. Living bodies...
