Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Going on this option, would something similar to the AA turrets on the Millenium Falcon work better, or something more like a rotary barrels such as a gatling gun? The reason that a rotary cannon rotates is so that the barrels can share a common ammunition feeding mechanism while each is given a sh...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
This also gives you some redundancy in case of random barrel malfunctions: if your Particle Cannon or Pulse Cannon misfires, that's a problem, but you've probably got time to fix it. If your point-defense laser (or plasma focus) misfires when taking a last-solon shot at an incoming missile, you mig...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
What would the Martial arts of the different culture be like compared to humans? I am assuming that given size and other factors they probably would take that into account, and how would they use that in a battle field situation? Probably not much they can do against a state-of-the-art combat Shell ...

Haven't seen the show or read the books for the expanse but do remember Babylon when I watched it as a kid. It depends on which faction. If it the Babylon 5 Station, yes.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Hmmm... so what you are saying is the Loroi operate more like the mafia or Putin's Russia? Meaning if they want somebody gone they won't bother with legalities... they will just green light them for would be assassins employed by the government. So if goverment is merciful they will issue a warning...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Do loroi males have Adam's apples? In the one bit of easily-accessible art that shows one of them with his neck in profile, there's a few lines that might be such a bump of cartilage... or might just be hair. Loroi males don't have the enlarged larynx that is characteristic of human males, and corr...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I am looking back a few panels where Alex is in the middle of a pile of Loroi crewmen (a internet nerd's dream come true, yes). Considering they are at a lower body temperature than he is, and vice versa, would this add or detract from their comfort of each other more than say two of the same specie...

Re: Perhaps My Final Rant On Scifi Directed Energy Pistols..
I can see a couple of areas that might solve the flashing light aspect. One is adjustable settings such as the phasers in Star Trek. Even the toy ones I had growing up could be adjusted as needed. Second, I am going to steel notes from Gargoyles (great cartoon). The energy weapons used in there buil...

It was not an auspicious year. The new page will be up when it's up. I'm sorry for the delay. Ahhhh! Nice to know! Thanks for replying...we will continue to wait patiently! ...no its was not an Auspicious year at all. Yeah, you get used to it after a while. Arch said he does art as a day job, and s...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
E.g. in human history, it took a while to realize first that the world isn't flat Actually, it took a while to imagine that the world could be thought to be flat. The consensus about the shape of the Earth has been historically like this: - From at least the 3rd century BC to the 20th century AD: E...

S-I 14
Just a short in one of my settings. Just finished it, first draft. What do you think? We all knew it would happen. There hadn’t been a medium of art, or a science that didn’t produce people that would say it. What prophets we had ignored. The Robot Revolution had finally happened. What we didn’t kno...

Re: Telling a Good Story Is All That Matters... But Video Game Makers and Some Media Producers Seem To Forget Or Ignore
When it comes to having a message in a story, it needs to be done well so it doesn't feel like you are being hit in the side of the head with a baseball bat labeled "the point." Yes, sometimes you need to be blunt with your point and sometimes as subtle as a hurricane, but if the story you are telli...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
This comes from the overheating problem in of the Rail and Coil gun discussion, combined with some Mech Warrior 5 playing I have been doing. How do energy weapons (lasers and plasma and the like) handle the heat). What is their coolant system. The fist thing that comes to mind is the venting of heat...

Re: Railguns
The largest drawback with railguns (and the reason why IRL development on them has largely stopped, after a number of experiments) is actually heat dissipation. The projectile has to contact the rails as it moves *and* the electrical current from rail to rail through the projectile has to be quite ...

Railguns
I wonder if they would be used in this setting, and in the case of the real world if we could ever get them. For lack of a better definition, its a gun that instead of using traditional explosive powders and other fuels to launch a projectile likea bullet or a guided missile from point A to B it wou...

Re: Page 226: Whirrrrr CRACK
You have a good point- where are the vital organs on that thing? Inside the armored body obviously. Barring access, I'd try severing the semi-flexible 'neck', or as many of the 'eyes' as quickly as possible, and hoping there isn't a sort of infrared or motion detector on the main body that can't be...

Re: Page 226: Whirrrrr CRACK
Alex actually could have been aiming for the head but the hardtrooper just had greater horizontal velocity than Alex could track. A bit more to the right and his shot would have been grazing its head if not plinking an eye sensor. https://i.imgur.com/HXcx4Vg.png He's never been in an actual infantr...
