Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I am looking back a few panels where Alex is in the middle of a pile of Loroi crewmen (a internet nerd's dream come true, yes). Considering they are at a lower body temperature than he is, and vice versa, would this add or detract from their comfort of each other more than say two of the same speci...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

E.g. in human history, it took a while to realize first that the world isn't flat Actually, it took a while to imagine that the world could be thought to be flat. The consensus about the shape of the Earth has been historically like this: - From at least the 3rd century BC to the 20th century AD: E...

They're not actually in a vacuum currently; two pages ago they noticed the compartment repressurizing right before Little Timmy right here paid them a surprise visit.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Regarding the "vision range" I meant it more in the sense that their equivalent in cone cells might end up reacting to different specific wavelengths in the visible spectrum, hence leading to the compositing difficulties, but as you've said that's probably a moot point given the tech level. The iss...

Re: Off TOpic: Things we Want in the next Elderscrolls Game

P.S. For the love of the divines, install a spellcheck system. Spellcheck might not help for fantasy names like Redguard, Argonian, and Khajiit. Anyways, I agree that I don't trust Bethesda's writing to make NPCs that aren't shallower than the Atacama Sea. What we know of TES 6 is that it's quite l...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

You won't normally find males out on frontier outposts and the like where they might end up pressed into service in non-traditional roles due to personnel shortages. "Normally" and "might" give enough leeway for fanfic writers to run wild! Especially when it turns out the enemy has some way to adva...

How did these factories operate without human-supplied parts and materials? Who said they operate without human labor? AI-generated TikTok challenges should be perfectly sufficient to recruit and maintain a large meatbag workforce. The only way a robot rebellion can succeed is if you create a syste...

I think you went a bit beyond Gigachad here and reached to, like, Yottachad or something.

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

My long video game experience taught me that it's always more enjoyable to shoot the explosive barrel next to an enemy than directly the enemy. (Unless the enemy in itself has exploding parts that can be targeted, then it's equally enjoyable.)

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

You cannot "turn" a high altitude interceptor into a ground attack aircraft. That would be a totally different machine then. That's exactly what happened with the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. High-altitude interceptor turned into a ground strike aircraft. With a pretty telling record of striking the...

will they be able to use this ship to shoot at the other ships, and thus disrupt the invasion a bit?
If they're not sure they can open back a door if they close it, they're probably even less sure about being able to use Umiak weapon systems.

Re: Terran Ship Classes

Well, the Japanese also built a pair of 20,000 ton aircraft carriers and called them "helicopter destroyers," so let's just say that nomenclature is not their strong suit. It's because postwar Japan's constitution forbids ownership of offensive war weapons. That's why the Japanese military is calle...

Re: Terran Ship Classes

I think that's more or less the distinction between destroyers and frigates in today's navies. Some navies (including, according to Wikipedia, Canadian, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish navies) do not make a distinction and call everything a frigate. Which has some amusing complications, because ...

I guess I should probably start calling them "workers" rather than civilians, as that probably gives more of a sense of the social distinction between workers and warriors.
Warriors, workers, and a Queen. And a hivemind. Forget about the Umiak, the Loroi were the real ant-people all along!

Re: Why FTL Starships Should Never Land On A Planet....

Considering that FTL travel is fictional, an author can make up whatever energy requirements they want. Exactly. The method of FTL travel, its energy cost, as well as the actual energy storage capacity of the starship, are all dictated by plot as a true hard-sci-fi story would not have FTL at all a...
