Re: Page 191: SBIK!
I wonder if his body jerked when his eyes opened. When I have dreams of such nature, usually my eyes open the same time my legs jerk or sometimes my entire torso jerks/convulses much like getting an electric shock. I was thinking the same. Pretty sure I would spasam awake. Loroi obviously sleep ver...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
What special accommodations do men require? Well most men don't require special accommodations. However if you think about it from a race that is primarily female and they build their ships for females there is a potential that they design their latrines for ladies only. Didn't NASA have to redesig...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I realize that it's a tradition, but I think that in the modern world, naming your children after yourself reeks of ego. I wouldn't have minded being William III, but I think the tradition my parents chose was better; my brother and I were given middle names from my paternal and maternal grandfathe...

I wonder what would happen to the modern world if all our satellites were suddenly destroyed?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
The extreme rejection of masturbation is more of a remnant of the Victorian era. Victorians were so zealous about sexual purity because venereal diseases like syhphilis had become endemic in the Elizabethan era. That and the tightly packed urbanized human masses of those times likely put quite the ...

Re: Page 189: GO AWAY!
My feeling is that if you had a telepathic ability that let you experience another individuals pain, you might have an entirely more favourable approach to euthanasia. Of course in the West our approach is still largely dictated by our Christian past, other countries have entirely different feelings...

Re: The aliens are crabs!
"Carcinisation" is now my word of the day.
Not sure why we need a word for "becoming more crab-like", seems like inventing words was a Victorian pastime.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Considering that many if not most of the combatants are going to be wearing armor that can be sealed, poison gas doesn't seem like it would even get anyone's attention in the Loroi-Umiak conflict. There are just so many much more dangerous things you could drop on enemy troops. Limited to stealth a...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Widely believed doesn't equal true, other historians argue that Hitler didn't allow the use in war fighting because he himself was gassed during WW1. Considering that the Germans didn't use gas in other, far more critical, battles later in the war and especially in the Eastern Front where it could ...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
For example; imagine if Gas Warfare wasn't outlawed and was used at will and became standard doctrine after WW1. How bloody would the battle of Britain be if Germany had dropped Mustard gas bombs in London and the UK retaliated with throwing gas on German cities; that's a genocidal weapon which is ...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
The whole concept of having "rules" in warfare is somewhat suspect. Any side that is pushed against a wall will fight back by whatever means they can. And the rationale for "rules" is conceived by people sitting in warm comfy rooms by people thinking about headlines rather than people in trenches. P...

Re: Page 188: Get down from there Alex!
The other thing I liked about the telepathy in this page was that Alex didn't know which direction it was coming from.
Is that usual for telepaths do you think?
Is Alex remembering what Fireblade felt at the time? Or is it just because Alex is unfamiliar with the sensation?

Re: Page 187: CRUNCH
I think my point should have been: human dreams are only rarely remembered Thats an interesting point. It is known that you can infact train yourself to better remember dreams, so it might well be different for a society of telepaths. I think the story also hinted that close contact between Loroi c...

Re: Page 187: CRUNCH
I think there is no doubt that this is one of Fireblade's memories or dreams/nightmares, Now the question is, if Fireblade will also get into one of Alex's dreams/nightmares like when the Belarmine was destroyed. It would be interesting to see how she would react to that. So far Fireblades dream re...

I do hope that after this Alex is going to definitely realise something external is responsible for these images.
Whether or not he lets on is another thing, but he must guess there is some psychic leakage going on, right?

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
This changed with monotheisms, were gods became rather uncaring. Jews, Christians, Moslims, all three of them have at the core of their believe, that whatever you do, you have to answer yourself before god for your actions, and that you have free will. In older religions, Greek, and Roman religions...
