Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?
I think it would take a lot longer than a few days for shots fired from the edge of a star system to reach the inner system. Even at the speeds a rail-gun could fire at. Doesn't matter how long it takes. A planet has a fixed trajectory and you can technically nuke it from another system if you're p...

Re: Speculation: What can Humaniti offer the Loroi?
Agreed. I'm also under the impression that most of the ship-building facilities are either in space (orbital hangars/shipyards) or on airless moons. Lack of atmosphere makes even a 750 gigaton impact less effective (just an earthquake unless directly hit; no blast; maybe falling debris depending on...

Ok, correction. SOME project were cancelled, others were miss-managed.dragoongfa wrote: The Sturmgewher was 'cancelled' only on paper, it was hidden by the German high command as a new submachine gun named MP-44 and sent into the Eastern front for 'field testing'.
Their priorities were frakked up.

Hitler canceled the development of many cutting-edge stuff (like the sturmgeweher and the jet fighter) and pulled resoruces into stupid, short-sighted projects. Wasn't that because they were running out of time and resources? Better planes would have taken longer than they had left just to develop ...

Often in such wars, the insanity (or lack of vision) from leadership can lead to loss. Hitler canceled the development of many cutting-edge stuff (like the sturmgeweher and the jet fighter) and pulled resoruces into stupid, short-sighted projects. Japan made a big mistake by ignoring the US carriers...

Isn't that something the creator usually does?

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
While I respect Verhoeven's choice, it is not representative of Heinlein's work. Basically it delights in missing the point: ''Starship Troopers'' is as much a philosophical work about society and citizen-state interaction as it is a novel about powered armor soldiers fighting giant bugs. The only ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
So in general the Loroi are Over Powered and the only ones more OP than them are the Orks from 40K? Since the Umiak reproduce artificially at essentially any rate they choose, I don't think so. Not that I really understand what is meant by "overpowered" in the context of a fictional story. Outsider...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Looking forward to the Mirror
From a storytelling perceptive the Umiak are hard to nail down, it's hard to write them in a way to make them 'presentable' without twisting a few corners, because frankly they are an antithesis of human society. TL;DR : It's easier to write Loroi as friendly and Umiaks as baddies because we can im...

You know what occurred to me?
I haven't really seen a story from the Umiak perspective. It's always the Loroi who end up with humans in this fan-fics (for obvious reasons).

Would it be uncomfortable for the Loroi, or would that stimulate them even more?
Heat expands the blood vessels and increases the blood flow after all.
turn out humans are of use to Loroi as the ultimate sex toys for them.

Ironically, the best was to win a total war is to target the population. and I don't mean in the "kill it", but "make life miserable for them". Destroy farms, food and water processing/manufacturing, infrastructure. That means your enemy now has to provide relief effort. Which means shipping in food...

hi hi Anyone can throw random numbers of power levels and things around when they're talking about soft science fiction. Oftentimes it is a result of the writers not knowing anything about science, than a result of deliberate application of science. Usually, they pick a random number that sounds su...

hi hi All the problems that Tetships have are exactly the same problems that the Starfury would have, only worse, since they're not symmetrical on all axes. I'm not even going to get into a discussion about what an actual realistic space fighter might be like, cause space is so vastly different tha...
