Re: A Call to... {Spoilers} - Page 127

Avoiding spoilers for a page that this is the marked spoiler thread for seems a bit excessive

Re: Fanart Hypothetically

I dig both the designs(ship and character!) and execution here. Very cool.

Re: Page 126: Oh my~

And then Tempo is suddenly tired... Well, she just got done explaining that everyone's been working hard after Beryl fell asleep. Occam's razor suggests she's just tired as hell generally and let the brave face drop when the alien wasn't looking her way. I assume everyone's just being silly, but if...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

The question would probably be worth asking anyway. The crew of your average Loroi warship wouldn't give you an accurate picture of their gender ratio, after all.

I can only imagine that if the answer to that question is yes, it's a hell of a spoiler.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Not familiar with GURPS, but it appears Alex is smarter than even Beryl  True, but since GURPS is a point-buy-for-everything system, that just means he spent a few extra points on general intelligence, while Beryl probably spent those same points on "being a telepathic space elf" and her sma...

...I doubt that it is physically possible to put out more strength with the same mass of muscle tissue... I'm not an expert on biology by any means, but I'd be surprised if our evolution had found the theoretical physical limit of muscle performance. I would expect that there exists a more efficien...

Re: Other comics and animations

Also, in Red Dwarf, I would place Dave Lister as more of a lazy bum than a moron, since he shows he can be quite capable when need be. Red Dwarf is always a bit flexible with continuity, some episodes portray Lister as having a deep well of potential if he just tried, and some show him as just unbe...

Re: Page 124 and 125, interesting times afoot (patreon only

Arioch's reaction to discussions of drone warfleets in the past have led me to think it is unlikely to see them as a huge factor in the comic. Maybe that's a misread, and maybe the drawbacks to them that he sees will figure into the plot. The other counterpoint would be that if they were a practical...

Page 124 and 125, interesting times afoot.

So two pages are on Patreon right now, and I've never gotten to make one of these page threads yet, so I'm jumping on it! If you don't want to be spoiled before the pages go on the site, look away! So. Some possible explanations of this come to mind. The stray was telling the truth, and they've figu...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I don't know if there's any specific stories Arioch might tell about words included or not, but if I recall correctly the software he used to originally create the lexicon had a core vocabulary of words that you would expect to find in any human culture, which it generated trade words for based on r...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I imagine for professional reports they'll have something like the International Phonetic Alphabet to describe all the sounds you could encounter in a multi-species society. Informally, vowels are squishy and they can probably use whichever ones they want to replace the u and y. Because of how Hs wo...

No J either. Or Y, which would be the most common substitution, I would think.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I'm using a font that Arioch posted many moons ago. There's probably unicode character one could use for sh, but if you want something easily typable, it's gotta be one of the standard 26 letters used for it, and they've got an S but no H, so it makes sense. There's no Y or U, so one does wonder how...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

@cacambo43: No glitch, your guess is right. Check out http://www.well-of-souls.com/outsider/loroi_trade.html and you will find no c or k. I imagine Loroi are perfectly capable of making K sounds through roughly the same means that humans do, they just don't use them in their language. Most languages...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

@GabrielGABFonseca: I'm pretty sure this burns out the screamer, too, both from some comments of Arioch elsewhere and by means of the analogy of long-distance shouting. If by some device or magic you could shout loudly enough to be heard a thousand miles away, would you survive the experience? Witho...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I understand the font doesn't work on all browser/system combinations, not much I'll be able to do about that, but it'll reverse the text. might make the page a bit prettier eventually.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I think it's also worth realizing that for ideas about paranoid thought police, the honesty of sanzi cuts both ways. Consider this scenario. Nizar, a poor put upon worker, overreacts to an unwanted work reassignment and expresses her wish that the government would just fall already and be replaced b...
